Long time reader, first time poster. This lady really hit home on a couple of key issues for me. Just wondering what everyone else thought. FYI, the key issues for me were special needs children and sending one of her own into battle. Be gentle, ain't here to make enemies!

Great Speech. Unlike most political speeches, I understood what she said.

Welcome aboard...

Gentle, eh? OK, to me it was a generic or boilerplate speech they wrote for her.

I'll be more interested to here her impromptu responses to reporters, etc. (if the powers that be let her speak to them).

Wow, you want to know what everyone on this site thought...? Everybody on this site is an expert...They have all the answers...You'll find the democrats find something crappy to say and the republicans will stick up for her...The one's who claim they're in the middle will also crap on her...

So there, I saved everyone some time...

One line I did like however, was when one of the speakers brought up the fact that she got more votes running for mayor of Wasilla than Biden got running for president...

And another thing, how come everyone has to bring up the fact that someone else wrote the speech for her? I'm sure Hussain didn't write his own speech, or the guy running with him...

Of course, that "fact" was not true. Roll Eyes

Biden's Vote Total? Higher Than Palin's

By Juliet Eilperin
ST. PAUL -- Former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee got a big laugh from the crowd at tonight's convention when he said that as mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin outpolled her Democratic counterpart, Joseph Biden.

"She got more votes running for mayor of the town of Alaska than Joe Biden got running for president of the United States," Huckabee declared, sparking applause.

There's just one problem with Huckabee's statement: it's not true. Biden collected a total of 63,157 votes during the Democratic primaries and caucuses this year. By contrast, Wasilla boasts a population of 9,780.

Running statewide, Biden still comes out on top. Palin got the backing of 114,697 Alaskans in her 2006 gubernatorial bid, compared to the 135,253 votes Biden got in his 2002 Senate race.

My comments will reflect that of former Ronald Reagan speech writer Peggy Noonon.

Don't care if it was true...Both campaigns are being run on lies...I do know that he dropped out of the race after receiving less than 1% of the vote in the Iowa caucases...Face it, the guy is a proven loser...

She really hit on McCain's military experience and the other sides lack thereof amongst other things.

Now if my math is correct, (and I'm taking your word on the number of votes) Delaware has a population of 783K and Alaska 626K...That would mean the proven Biden only pulled in 17.3% of his state where the fairly new candidate Palin pulled in a mere 18.3%...

And I didn't do any research, but I heard her popularity with the Alaskan people is near 80%...Wonder what Biden is?

And why isn't that Alaska democrat Walter K not weighing in on this?

Folks, not trying to measure genitalia here or trying to start arguments, just trying to see if any of the governor's thoughts may have swayed your opinion in the upcoming election. P.S. There is no wrong answer.

I heard about that too. Gotta watch those open microphones.

As far as the speech....I thought she did well for a first speech. I suppose the next big test will be her debate with Sen Biden.

Below is a snapshot of an ongoing poll on MSNBC. Keith Oblerman won't be happy when he sees this.

Was VP pick Sarah Palin's speech effective in introducing herself and boosting John McCain's campaign? * 120003 responses

Yes. Her speech proves she is ready for an all-out fight.
50%

No. She spent too much time trying to mock Obama.
32%

It remains to be seen what she can do on the campaign trail without a teleprompter and speech writer.
18%

Last night i was really looking forward to seeing her speech mostly because the GOP is rolling down hill and she is the only light light i see in the party.

After watching the speech i felt disappointed. I didnt see where she talked about the issues that much. IT was mostly about family values and McCain's POW record.

In short, great delivery...little substance.

If there was any doubt about who could rally the GOP base, there should be no question now. I think the speech was excellent, and I suspect Obama knows "its over".

Well someone was listening when I said I hope she dumps the pant suits! Good speach by her and Rudy.
I think its going to be a very interesting race with a McCain-Palin victory in the end.

Go Sox!

I agree. The first 20 minutes was spent talking about her family and hockey moms. I wish these candidates would stick to the issues. What is frightening to me is that I have yet to hear any of these candidates mention the constitution in their speeches, the very document they and all of us swore to uphold.

bkreigh, did you happen to catch any of the Ron Paul rally? The place was going crazy and their didn't seem to be any empty seats, more then I can say for the RNC.

Folks are excited now in the spirit of the times.

But such spirits often lead to nasty hangovers after all is said and done.

During her speech, if you closed your eyes, you could easily think that you're listening to Hillary Clinton.

As was said by Hillary herself and from many Republicans concerning Obama, "he can sure give a good speech but, can he lead a nation?"

We'll see.

I watched some of RNC and I thought the same thing. It was noticably empty in the stands.

Yeah i caught most of it or at least i had it on the tube while i was doing other things. Caught bits and pieces of the afternoon session here and there.

When Ron Paul spoke the place was going nuts!!! I love how he talks about the things the other candidates wont metion and he hasn't changed his position in all the years he has been in congress.

By any chance did you watch the part of the RNC when the states were casting their delegats? That part really ticked me off. They do everything to silence Ron Paul's name. It was quite disgusting.
