There is a constitutional professor in these parts(Texas) that wholeheartedly agreed with the Supreme Courts ruling, he even stated "the Texas courts dropped the ball on this one". I happen to agree with him.
But instead of bashing Texas shouldn't it be a case of the system worked?
Texas justice has a poor record for convicting the innocent. Stories out of Dallas of late are downright scary. The famous episode on 60 minutes about Lenell Geter is the most infamous example.
The system worked only after it ruined the guys life. yes, mistakes happen but they seem to happen in some places more than others. No state is squeaky clean when it comes to dropping the ball like this.
You should see how the Harris county crime lab is being-and rightfully-accused of shoddy work and there are hundreds of cases under review because of this, and yes there are people getting released.
Hooligan, You aint just a kiddin they ruined this guys life and he should recieve compensation. Sad news is it won't be much. An alleged rapist who served SIXTEEN YEARS and was wrongly convicted then exonerated by you guessed it DNA was offered a paltry 250,000 dollars for time served. What a bunch of BS!
that's why prosecutors should be appointed and not elected in my humble opinion.
