McCain Camp Battles National Enquirer Over Alleged Palin Affair

September 3, 2008 07:42 PM
John McCain's presidential campaign is threatening a lawsuit against the National Enquirer over a print edition story the tabloid ran today alleging that Gov. Sarah Palin has had an extramarital affair with her husband's business partner.

The allegation would normally be dismissed by political observers as the random musings of a supermarket tabloid -- indeed, the McCain campaign said as much in its statements on Wednesday -- except that the paper has built up a reservoir of legitimacy following its earlier reporting on the John Edwards affair.

In a statement to the Huffington Post, a spokesman for the paper, who promised a larger report next week, tapped into that pool of quasi-respect.

When we find life on other planets, are we going to credit the Enquirer for printing it first too?

Apparently, Elvis' baby is a two headed demon monster from Mars!

Mark, 'Bat Boy Found in Cave' was - by far - the BEST headline I ever read! I was isolated at the time so it didn't take too much to entertain me!! Big Grin

I'll be strait up and honest. I don't like this woman. I don't like McCain for choosing her. While I don't want any of the stuff the National Enquirer to be true, it may very well be and NOR would I doubt it.

Just as in the case with Larry Craig (R) Idaho, hours of footage of him railing against gay marriage, lifestyles etc...and the guy is a self hating queen that solicits sex from gay men in a Minneapolis/St. Paul (RNC Convention held there for that reason? possibly) Air Port. As with all of the conservative leadership these days, theey're hypocrites and if you give them just half a chance, they'll prove it.

Me thinks thou protest too much.

Did anyone watch the daily show last night? I advise you watch it EVERY NIGHT this week. John Stewart is doing great damage to the Republicans by playing clips of them and their pundits talking out of both sides of the mouths, OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER. I'm just going to start calling them the flip flop party. Lies on top of lies, it's clear these people will say ANYTHING to stay in power.

As far as I'm concerned, Palin is guilty. Everything I've read about her shows her to be petty, vindictive, mean and of poor quality, it would not surprise me to find that all of it is true and then some.

As for her (propagandsa) speech last night, I'll wait for the Daily Show/Colbert report versions as they'll strip away all of the tripe. Before you claim "BIAS!" I didn't watch any of the DNC either, except for the Daily show versions of it.

later...

Lokie

I have serious doubts McCain is going to select bat boy for a cabinet position. While you may not doubt it, I do.

Whatever happened to discussing issues? I heard that we were in for a change… but I don’t see it. I started a thread discussing only issues and only Pat replied and his comment was of little value (sorry Pat, but it is the truth).

Keep up the lowbrow comments and make sure you teach your children how to act petty, too. They need to follow in our footsteps!

I somehow missed that thread...

So far the only "change" I see is the republican VP nomineee...and that seems to be a real sore spot here at Fred's liberal land.

In typical 'Jeff Gannon' style, Eddie is completely removed from reality on this one.

As soon as you quite pulling your party hack routine and dare to ask a serious question about this woman you'll earn a little respect (from me, anyway).

There is serious controversy surrounding this woman, her record, her past performance...all of it and the GOP is doing themselves no favors by keeping Palin away from the press. What are they trying to hide? She can field dress a Moose but can't answer a question? Sorry, game over.

Just because Alaskans are stoked (bills haven't started showing up yet) and giving her rave reviews, that doesn't translate into success anywhere else (what was Bush's approval rating after just 20 months in office vice now). The fact is there is something that the Republicans know about her that they don't want to get out, they don't want the press prying it out, either.

No thanks. If you're too afraid of the "liberal media" to answer a question then you're about as much good to yourself as you are to others when it comes to running this country, none. Bush was already here, we don't need a Bush with ***** (well...not in that form anyway Razz ).

later...

The enquirer has broken stories. If they are after Sarah Palin, she better hope she doesn't have the aleged skeletons in her closet. They are ruthless and don't back down.

From Wikipedia:

"In 2001, the Enquirer uncovered that the Rev. Jesse Jackson had an illegitimate child. Salacious details of the Bill Clinton-Monica Lewinsky affair were first made public by the Enquirer. The Enquirer was regarded by some as having the best media coverage of the O.J. Simpson murder trial. For example, when a distinctive footprint from a Bruno Magli shoe was found at the crime scene, Simpson vehemently denied owning such a shoe. The Enquirer, however, published a photo by a freelance photographer showing Simpson in the shoes, then dug up another one again showing him in such a pair."

Let's not forget John Edwards, and Gary Hart either.
