It seems this Kentucky representative wants to come to the rescue and curb Internet bullying. Have these guys been trolling the Soapbox??Big Grin

"Kentucky Representative Tim Couch filed a bill this week to make anonymous posting online illegal.

The bill would require anyone who contributes to a website to register their real name, address and e-mail address with that site.

Their full name would be used anytime a comment is posted."

"If the bill becomes law, the website operator would have to pay if someone was allowed to post anonymously on their site. The fine would be five-hundred dollars for a first offense and one-thousand dollars for each offense after that."

Doesn’t this elected official have anything better to do with his… no, OUR time and our money than to worry about anonymity on the Internet? What a butt hole!

Hey moron (Kentucky Representative Tim Couch), there is a war on! The price of gas and home heating oil is killing hard working people’s budgets! We have illegal aliens crossing our porous borders and any one of them could be a terrorist! And you are worried about anonymity on the frigging Internet? Wow, you’re priorities are screwed up! Roll Eyes

I was thinking your knee's were killing you when you wrote this TJ? Sure we have bigger proplems than the anonymous bullies and pedophiles patrolling the internet, but I think it would be a good cause to find these folks and stop them from preying on our young and innocent as well. I'm sure this guy had his heart and head in the right place when he was working to pass this new legislation.
Hope your knees are feeling and getting better.
Peace
Dick

Is this the same Tim Couch that was QB for the Wildcats? If so this belongs in the sports forum Smile just kidding.

Is his only argument because of "Online Bullying?" Give me a break.

What is stopping people from registering to a site with a fake name and an e-mail address the never use? Are they going to require our national ID card numbers as well? Furthermore, how are they going to apply this law to people from other countries? Sounds like a wild goose chase. But hey people now days want a the government to control every aspect of their life. Hopefully they will make a law that will require somebody else to wipe my own @$$.

Oh, somebody probably just called him a name on some board or forum, and he couldn't figure out how to have the person banned.

Some people are just very sensitive or "thin skinned." Hell, it's happened here!

TJ, I wouldn't get to excited about this... First off it will never pass.... Second off, he probably had one of his staffers draft up some stupid A$$ bill, either because he, his staffer , or one of those he represents had a problem with this.... I seriously doubt there was much time & thought put into this....by anyone.

I agree it would be nice if ALL the representatives were more concerned with the "home front" issues, but it appears they are not...

Another sad part is so many Americans are worried who is living at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave, but yet they do nothing to get a decent congressional representative... most don't even vote for them. Those are the ones that really count... The president is just a figurehead.

Wray.... Cool

Represntative Couch says enforcing this bill if it became law would be a challenge.

That's an understatement, LOL. This guy isn't even in the U.S. Congress, he is a state legislator. So it would only effect websites in KY. What a waste of time.

While I don't care for anonymous posters, I'm really getting tired of our politicians doing anything and everything they can to "look busy" instead of working on the important things.

Ya....like they are in their office to go after Clemens, Belichick, anonymous posters. Forget illegal aliens, NAFTA, Chavez, fuel costs, etc.

It appears the only penalties in this law will be against the website operator, not the persons posting.

Dick, my knees are killing me but I would have felt the same no matter what the pain level was. Also, I did not mention pedophiles! Like child molesters are going to use their real names and addresses. Pedophiles should be killed for their heinous crimes. And this law would not help bring these animals to justice.

Dennis, do you think this clown would actually answer me when I do not live in his state and cannot vote for him. Maybe I’ll e-mail him using an anonymous address. Big Grin

Wray, I am only upset at the waste our elected officials are doing in order to get media attention. We have this, the steroid crap and StupidGate! All a waste of taxpayer’s time and money. And all meant to get politician’s ugly mugs in front of a camera! We have the government we deserve!

Pat, they deem topics as steroid use by athletes as more important than fighting poverty. They judge filming on the sidelines in the NFL as more important than the war and the terrorist’s desires to murder all Americans. And now the feel anonymous posters on the Internet as more important than the housing and credit crisis this nation is in right now. Go figure…

Would be an interesting constitutional issue, do we have to identify ourselves to have freedom of speech?

My knees are killing me too, and I live upstairs. Oh well, getting old isn't for whimps. I'm the oldest person in the building and I get all kinds of advice from the kids living here......I take it and say "yep you're right" and go on like I did before
