Why is the House Judiciary Committee discussing NFL brain injuries? While I applaud the fact they are concerned about the health and well being of our fellow citizens, do they not have better or more appropriate business?

From their website:
quote:
The jurisdiction of the The House Committee on the Judiciary as follows:

-The judiciary and judicial proceedings, civil and criminal.
-Administrative practice and procedure.
-Apportionment of Representatives.
-Bankruptcy, mutiny, espionage, and counterfeiting.
-Civil liberties.
-Constitutional amendments.
-Criminal law enforcement.
-Federal courts and judges, and local courts in the Territories and possessions.
-Immigration policy and non-border enforcement.
-Interstate compacts generally.
-Claims against the United States.
-Members of Congress, attendance of members, Delegates, and the Resident Commissioner; and their acceptance of incompatible offices.
-National penitentiaries.
-Patents, the Patent and Trademark Office, copyrights, and trademarks.
-Presidential succession.
-Protection of trade and commerce against unlawful restraints and monopolies.
-Revision and codification of the Statutes of the United States.
-State and territorial boundary lines.
-Subversive activities affecting the internal security of the United States.

They have responsibility to see that the work place is safe. Kind of like an OSHA situation.

UNder, I agree with you. These people have better things to do. But they are generally incompetent so this is to be expected.

Dan, to me thee is a major difference. The president is working all the time. Even when on the links all the things he needs to work are at his disposal. His job is 24/7 and high stress so he, like all presidnets before him, need to blow off some steam.

Congress on the other hand, goes out together drinking and womanizing. They poke their noses where it does not belong. Like the steroid debate and Spygate. Roll Eyes

Dis,

I don't see a difference. All of them, President, Representatives, Senators, are elected. Different roles, yes, but Congress has no less responsibility than the President does when it comes to personal responsibility, decision making, and being stewards of my tax dollars and stewards of the security of the homeland.

I don't know how my tax money is involved in the NFL, or even why. Maybe Congress should cap NFL player salaries, but I digress...

I can remember there was some talk about having kids soccer programs require wearing helmets for protection while heading the ball. It never had any legs, but as a result of possible head injuries I see a lot of parents discouraging their kids from heading some of the longer goalie punts up field. Is the frontal lob overrated?

The Committee on Education and Labor is responsible for workplace safety, not these clowns led by our favorite tax cheat. I think this committee is in the wrong sandbox, or perhaps THEY have brain damage and accidentally wandered into the wrong committee.

Perhaps next time I'm at work I'll see if I can draft up some small boat policy!

Or maybe I just took one to many soccer balls to the head and I'm crazy Cool

Because the NFL has an Anti-Trust exemption from Congress through the Judicary Committee, just like MLB and the NBA.
