You sure it's not Puddle Pirate? Hence my avatar.

Other names are Kneedeeps, Shallow Water Sailor and Hooligan Navy.

I could just have a hearing problem, but I thought it was puddle pirate or puddle jumper.

Or maybe "Faith" is another internet troll attempting to stir up some sort of outrage from Coasties by using what "she" believes is a putdown to us but has now found out that most Coasties have a good sense of humor, even the type that is self deprecating. Razz Applause

When I read the term, Pedal Pirate, what comes to my mind is someone in second place pushing a stout stick through Lance Armstrong's spokes to take Lance out of the race so that the Pedal Pirate might win that particular leg of the race, and perhaps even the Yellow Jersey itself if, say, Lance was to break his collarbone in the fall.

On another thread it was stated that the term "Guardian" is coming into vogue, as in "Guardians of the Sea".

I prefer Coastie. Guardian sounds just a touch pretentious.

Getting a bit off of track, but as far as terms of endearment of individual puddle pirate ratings go, I was always partial to being called a "peni$ Machinist" (like I was a snipe or something).

"Guardian" sounds more than just a touch pretentious.

Then again, I never liked "Coastie" either. It sounds a bit diminutizing (Is that a word?) and degrading to the point of not being considered important.

I always thought "Sailor" was a good descriptive term. (Who cares about that other sea service??!!). And "Coast Guardsman" was also good, though not gender neutral, and "Coast Guardsperson" sound really stupid. Roll Eyes

Sailor is good. I never minded Coastie because I just saw it as an abbreviated form of Coast Guardsman. Coast Guardsperson......has anyone ever said that?

Definitely not a catchy title....
