Sanding requires effort and mutiple works. Start NO LESS than 600 grit, and work yer way up. And keep it wet, with WATER,and ONLY Water-JRC I;ve used triple aught or better steel wool with above average results as well |

Christmas Eve went as planned. I cooked the Æbleskiver and all the fixin's. Most of them turned out okay -- except for one batch I made in an older Æbleskiver Pan. It's just wasn't designed for use with a flat stove top (it doesn't have a flat bottom). We gave it to my son and daughter in law to take home with them -- they have a gas range, and it always work okay when I used it with a gas stove.
Then we began the ritual of opening presents. That also went well -- though I do miss the participation of little kids and the excitement in their eyes when they discover what's inside the packages. Sometime this morning, I'll wander over to our tenants in the other half of the duplex. They have two young boys, ages 4 and 2. They'll perk up my Christmas Spirit. I received several things for my truck -- including a new radio/cd from my son and DIL, so he can listen to it when he borrows the truck on their visits up here. ...gjd |

Back too work! Another x-mas come and gone, but a good one it was. Short work week ahead and then another 4 day weekend to enjoy up in Maine skiing Sunday River. I recieved some work gloves, jeans, shirts etc from Santa. I think Santa wants me to continue to work for another year or so. Oh, and a helmet for skiing.
Peace and Happy holidays, Dick |

Dick... Despite what hard core Libertarians might say or think, helmets are probably a good idea for both skiing and biking. Just about the only regulation that bothers me is when it becomes impossible to order a restaurant hamburger, RARE! ...gjd |

Hey George,
You have obviousely never recieved food poisoning from a rare burger. I got food poisoning or some other nasty bug from a rare burger, bad mayo, or bad mexican food. I could not pinpoint which one of culprits made me awfully ill for a number of days. It was a great way to tighten up those abdomen muscles as well as drop ten pounds in weight. I will never eat a rare burger again unless I grind it myself. Hope you found that X-mas spirit and enjoyed the day Peace and good luck in the new year, Dick, PS I just joined photobucket but not sure I will ever understand how to use it. I'll have to get one of my 13 yearolds to walk me through it the old fashion way, wispering in my ear and patting me on the back. |

Ahh, steak tartar (just a dash of L&P and Tabasco)! I guess I'll just have to take my chances. A server at Denny's refused my order for a rare hamburger once (when all this stuff started). I called the manager over and asked him, "Why do you serve tainted meat." He didn't respond directly, but said, "We're just looking out for your health. . ." It was bad enough that growing up I had to listen to my mother tell me how and what to eat. I sure don't want to listen to some 23 year old kid advise me. The solution must be better than: ...gjd PS---> And, sorry, I don't know anything about photobucket. I upload photos and graphics to a hidden page on one of the web sites I maintain. |

I cook venison, partrige, woodcock, duck breasts and tuna all very quickly 2-4 minutes a side, Yum!
I feel better knowing I controlled the butchering and handling of the fish, game,or fowl. |

Almost a full day without a post on this thread. Perhaps we're all getting tired of "small talk" and idle chit-chat -- even though I think it has a proper place on the "Soapbox" -- just to get away from all that meaningful
Approaching another long weekend. What's a weekend? ...gjd |

Went to the "Hot Rocks" place today. They bring you a stone super-heated in an oven, and you cook your meal on the table. Wife had an extremely tender rib-eye; I had the scallops and shrimp. They give you some drawn butter to put on the rock to keep it all from sticking, some marinades, all good stuff.
Ordered a sashimi appetizer, the yellowfin tuna at market price. I was feeling a little flush ... got paid today, big refund on the hotel bill, Christmas is all done ... so I didn't ask how much the "market price" was. Paid $35 for about 4 ounces of fatty tuna ...ouch! Still, a great meal all around. |

I've never been to one of those, and it sounds interesting. I've never seen or heard of one in the SF Bay Area, but I'll now keep an eye out. OTOH: Let's see, there are those buffet places where you serve yourself, and now these hot rock places where you cook it yourself. What's next? Bring your own food? I do like the Mongolian BBQ places, where you pick out the ingredients for your own stir fry, and then they cook the dish on a large drum-like grill. Quite a few Asian Buffet restaurants have opened in this area over the last couple of years. Some of them are quite good -- others, no so. Like all buffets the quality, to a large degree, depends on how long the food has been sitting on the steam table. (I do find it interesting that all of them seem to put out kid-oriented foods, such as hot dogs, fries and pizza. Perhaps some of the Asian kids dining with their parents consider this "ethnic food.") And we now have two Hawaiian BBQ fast-food places. Loco Moco with Spam. . . yum! Of course California has a wide variety of eating places. I just can't understand why we don't have Nathan's Hot Dogs, White Castles, and anywhere making a decent Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich. ...gjd ...gjd |

At least in Northern Mich you can go to the local grocery store and get White Castle Burgers in the frozen food section. Just as soon as I can get out for my drive way from the 10 inches of snow we had last night.

Oh, we can also do that, but they're just not the same, and no pickle! Nathan's hot dogs can also be bought, but again, not the same and they are skinless (of all things), no "snap" when bit into. I guess I'm just picky. . . No snow her. . . it's wet outside, but not cold enough for the white stuff. ...gjd |
