What toe nails? I guess we're going nowhere for the 4th, though we are headed down the street a ways in the morning to catch the local parade at 10 a.m. We're walking there with our tenant and her two kids. . . well, actually they're walking, and I'm riding my electric scooter. I just have to remember to charge the battery. . . it supposed to have a range of 6 to 7 miles, but I've never tested it for distance. Mark seems to be doing well. You should stop by and say hello at the Porpoise Club. I'll buy you a virtual drink or two. ...gjd |

Morning Steve,
I went and watched the kids run in a road race. Smaller boys ran the 1 mile fun run and Katie did the 5 mile race in 40.15 minutes. After that I went to a cookout were I was going to play some music but the fiddle player got over booked and couldn't make it out to play. I don't like to go it solo so I played basketball with the kids. Today heading to the beach with all the gear to have a little fun in the sea. We have a house for the week right on the beach at Plum Island. Bringing Kayakes, surf boards, skim boards, boogie boards, fishing rods and snorkling gear. We ussually spend a good bit of the time fishing the break water on the Merrimack and surfing the bar thats 1/4 mile off the front of the beach. Great long sand bar that we ussually have all to our selves . I'm hoping the surf cooperates and gives us some knee to shoulder growlers over the week. Bringing a couple of guitars and hope to get some music in the evenings with my son Matt who plays a very good lead. Hope all are well and enjoying good weather and company. Peace, Dick |

Hi y'all....
Our 4th was pretty good, but nothing really exciting. I did ride my s****** down to the parade here in town (only about 3/4 mile away). It was OK, just not enough marching bands for my taste. I had planned to sit on the s****** the whole time, but every contingent seemed to have a color guard of some kind. . . so it was stand up, uncover, hat over heart. . . at least most of the time. We didn't have anybody over for a traditional Independence Day BBQ. (My son and his spouse are up at her family's cabin at Tahoe for the weekend.) I didn't want to make a BFD, with just the two of us, so we went to the local Applebees for a mid-afternoon lunch. I had their Honey BBQd baby backs (not exactly country cookin' by any means), and Lin had their upscale version of White Castle sliders. Instead of staying up, I DVR'd the "Capitol Fourth" on PBS, and I'll sit down in a little bit and watch it. It does sound like you all had a pretty good holiday, and still having it. ...gjd ps... Why is scoooooter (when spelled correctly) censored here? |

And here I was thinking the word only has something to do with the Dukes of Hazard.
But the Urban Dictionary give those "other" definitions like (and I guess we'll find out how many get passed the robot censor here):

What a great weekend. Fishing was OK.weather was great and the Bugs were there. Most of the weekend just enough breeze to keep the bugs away. Didn't want to leave but got more decks to do. On the way home on US2 in the U.P. there is some work being done on a bridge. Small bridge, and traffic is down to one lane. The bridge has portable traffic lights on it to control traffic. The east bound light malfunctioned going to red only while the west bound light stayed green. East bound traffic was backed up for 15 miles until the problem was corrected. I was lucky as it took me only 30 minutes to go 5 miles. If you call that luck. Got to get to work/play Have a good one.

Hey Guys,
I've caught 15 or more stripers out of the kayake over the last three days, all of them in the 22-26 inch range. Caught three this morning out at the sand bar while the kids alternated surfing and fishing from the kayakes and surf boards. Matt caught two small flounder on flies(clousers). I'm working short hours at the warehouse and then heading back to the Plum for more surfing and fishing. Saw the Coasties out of Merrimack helping folks off the breakwater yesterday at high tide. One of the folks must have went into the water as they had the coasties, the aux, seatow and harbor patrol all out at the mouth working some sar? Peace, Dick This message has been edited. Now that would be a hoot to catch a striper of that size out of a kayak. Do they drag ya around for a while? I loved fishing for them when I was out on Long Island.

hey Bob,
Yea, they drag you around for a while when you hook-up. Last night I caught six more out of the kayake and then beached it on the spit and caught 21 stripers with my fly rod in the foam right off the spit. I caught one keeper that completely spooled the fly line and was into the backing before I turned him. Total fight was around 15 minutes. My son who I rigged with a plug and then a clouser trailing 36 inches behind it, caught two fish at once and thought he was into a cow before he landed the two fish. He landed 15 fish or more as well last night. Great time fishing as we just caught the tide and the setting sun perfect. peace & tight lines, Dick This message has been edited. Social Security will still be around, and will be better than ever (unless, of course, the politicians privatize it, and allow folks to invest it in good stocks . . . y'know, like ENRON!) The fear mongers were predicting its failure back in the 60s (and probably before that). I started collecting at 62, and that ± $1500 every month is a nice supplement to our pensions plans. Then again, by the time you become eligible, you might have to take the payments in Chinese yuan. ...gjd |

Morning Guys,
Just got in to work after going surfing with my oldest girl Katie out on the spit at Plum Island. Steve, its good to work! You have the excitement of failure and success that you don't get in retirement. Pluss getting up and out every day puts you in contact with all the really hot chicks! I'm not sure I would get out into the world if I didn't have too. Plus I don't want to wish all those good years ahead away soo fast. Caught some more strippers last night from the kayake, but the tide wasn't right for fishing from the sand bar. Damm kayake that I had tied to me kept swinging around in the surf and hitting me and the fly line. Totally out of control and completely crazy trying to cast and land a fish with the rollers crashing over the bar. Surfing this morning was the balls. Waist to shoulder wave hieghts and a couple of rides of 100 yards. Most of my rides are much shorter than that and quite a few rides are me standing up and falling down rather quickly. Katie blows me away on catching and riding big waves. Peace, tight lines and cowabunga mates, Dick |
