A public school teacher preached his Christian beliefs despite complaints by other teachers and administrators and used a device to burn the image of a cross on students' arms, according to a report by independent investigators.
Mount Vernon Middle School teacher John Freshwater also taught creationism in his science class and was insubordinate in failing to remove a Bible and other religious materials from his classroom, the report said.
School board members were scheduled to meet Friday afternoon to discuss the findings by consulting firm H.R. On Call Inc., hired by the district to investigate. The report was released Thursday.
The report comes one week after a family filed a federal lawsuit in Columbus against Freshwater and the school district, saying Freshwater burned a cross on their child's arm that remained for three or four weeks.
I'm thinking this guy is a nut job and will most likely never teach again or be in a supervisory position of looking over the welfare of children. Sad story!
DJ, the same thing should happen to this teacher as what happened to the folks teaching Islam… fire them. As I wrote before, treat everyone the same. If the punishment is not the same, I have a problem. If they sack the teacher for being an insubordinate idiot, I support that decision!
If he caused physical harm to a child, you bet they should! Hey, the teacher knows the rules. He knew what had to be taught and what couldn't be taught. He broke the rules and should pay for that. And if he hurt kids, the punishment should be harsh.
The big dummy ... what he SHOULD have done is use the high frequency generator against their forehead to develop the cross, thereby microwaving a portion of the frontal lobe. Then, the little wimps might not be in any condition to complain ... some might even call it a stigmata-thingie, if he was lucky.
I read about this a couple of days ago on P.Z. Myers' Pharyngula website. There is a HUGE difference between teaching kids about someone else's culture and actually BURNING your religion onto someone's arm.
Soc, wrong. Place that stuff on his nuts! Cook them slowly… basting with hot acid every half hour. If what is said is true, his punishment MUST be appropriate with the crime. And harming a child is a HUGE crime!
Best line of the whole story. ""With the exception of the cross-burning episode ... I believe John Freshwater is teaching the values of the parents in the Mount Vernon school district," he told The Columbus Dispatch in a story published Friday."
There is just something scary about anyone that takes their religion too seriously, really. I for one am sick to death of all the religions running political policy for the planet.
"You never realize the way love dies when you crucify your soul" Heart
Religion is brain rot and the divisiveness it breeds is ruining this planet, can you hear me earthlings?
Worship the soul, it's pure light. The Brain and the Ego is where the darkness lies, where the seed of sin is created. You save yourself. Love.
It's easy to lose perspective ... maybe it is just a guy, trying to do the right thing as he sees it ... went a little too far. He probably didn't burn the kids, if they were subjected to pain, they would probably have resisted.
So he has an agenda ... well, so do thousands of ultra-liberal professors on college campuses everywhere, and I suggest they may have more influence on mis-thinking kids than we know ...
Has anyone here seen the documentary "Jesus Camp"? I know DJ has, he watched it at my house. I advise you watch it if you haven't seen it. At one point these evangelicals hold up a life sized cut out of G.W. Bush and worship it like the effigy of a deity. Religion and Education simply don't mix, it's a historical fact.
I know a large number of very successful people who went to Catholic schools their whole life...Kindergarten through College. Religion and education didn't hurt them any. I also know a large number of people who never had any religious training at all and are $hitbags. And then there is the group that falls in between these 2. How is religion and education the problem?
So he has an agenda ... well, so do thousands of ultra-liberal professors on college campuses everywhere, and I suggest they may have more influence on mis-thinking kids than we know ...
I'll remember that the next time I burn something onto their skin. I think college folks are a little more mature than this nuts audience.
Soc, I saw some pictures of the scares of the cross on a kid’s arm today. Sorry, the teacher inflicted bodily damage onto the kids. Some people are trying to do what they believe is right and just push it too far. Hurting kids is too much… way too much.
DJ, that’s the same picture I saw on the news this AM! Pisses me off! They are very lucky they didn’t do that to my kids!
Pat, is burning propaganda into a kids brain any worse that burning the flesh. The pain associated with brainwashing can last decades!
