What kind of recommendations do you need to get in? Also would it help to have more then one because i 90% positive i could get a senators reccomendation but would it help to have another like a 4 star general in the reserve who is a pilot?
Obviously you need a nomination, but this really isn't the limiting factor for getting into an academy. Apply to as many as you'd like. The more you apply for, the more interviews you'll have, which should better prepare you for the next...and the next...and the next. I get nominations from a Senator and a Congressman...but I didn't use either of them. They have a certain number of nominations they can submit for four of the five service academies.
In general, they will also coordinate with each other so they don't double up nominations for a specific academy.
You apply for your Senators' and Congressman's nomination (inquire with each as to their applications). You can also apply for a nomination from the VP. If you are the dependant of a military member, you might have more possibilities. Also, if you are already in the military, there are alternate ways.
These are NOMINATIONS, not recommendations. Letters of recommendation are part of most congressmember's applications and the official academy application. (This is where the General's letter might help.)
what is the chance of some one getting a appointment to the academy if they did not do their best in school, but have a "SAT" score in the top 5% and is on active duty at this time.
Is this a letter of reccomendation for a candidate? I am assuming it is.
Some points you may want to talk about are their leadership qualities, ethics, achievements, drive/motivation to serve, and any personal traits that impressed you.
