From those of you who know AFA admissions extrememly well, please help me out.

I think I had received a B in Spanish IV. Will Academy admissions frown upon the idea I got a B in a class, or will they perhaps forget about it, since I'm aiming for an aeuronautics major, nothing that requires a foreign language.

I also am actively engaged in National Honor Society, Boy Scouts, Civil Air Patrol, student council and I'm in the IB (International Baccaloriate)program (a highly prestigious, academic, program). Do you assume that they will accept me for all these accomplishments.

One B will not kill you.

Academics comprise about 60% of the weight for the admissions "whole candidate score."

From the limited information you have given, I would say your chances are good. However, the admissions commitee sees all the relevant information and makes the final decisions.

*phew* You don't know how much I'm relieved, since today's admissions is basically a competition (in my eyes). Thanks again. I can continue giving it my all.

sounds like you should get in, also, dont go Aero. Everyone thinks they want to be an aero major but it's very hard and even if you think you're smart, the Academy will show you otherwise. Take it from me, a management major that is going to pilot training: Major has NOTHING to do with your chance of flying. Unless you want to be an astronaut, do not be an aero engineer.

What words of advice would you offer to a youngster in Middle School, near a AF National Guard base, but w/o a JROTC school for HS?
Vermont has little or no Military schools, save Norwich, which is another story.
Curriculum, honors, groups, associations, community effort, all are possibles for this young lady.
Thanks

Is there a Civil Air Patrol squadron in the area? The cadet program starts at age 12 & runs through 18. Vt has half a dozen Cadet or Composite (cadet & adult) squadrons. Check out gocivilairpatrol
There is also Aviation Explorers. Similar to the well known Police Explorers Posts but focused on Aviation. That's what the guy a couple years ahead of me in HS got involved with & ended up getting into the Academy.
Otherwise Sea Scouts is another good program for 14-20 year olds.
I had none of the above & still earned a nomination.
