What can I do to get into the Academy?

I've seen similar posts like jassen222's & kevintexas2's topics but I couldn't quite find the answer I'm looking for.

The main reason I want to get into the USAFA--it's the best way to get into the US Army-Baylor University Doctoral Program! source
My ultimate goal is to become a Doctor of Physical Therapy in the Air force!

I'm 17yrs of age, 18 this December!
I've joined basektball practices but any teams had been 5th grade - volleyball team & 9th grade - soccer. Last honors class I had was in 8th grade =[ No AP. Girl scouts was in middle school.

Now, I'm a High school graduate since March'09
3.0-3.5 range GPA =[

  • Does it help me get into the Academy if I get a close/exact 4.0 GPA in college? And in college, does it help if I join an honor society or two and/or Army ROTC for the leadership skills, military experience, etc.? Although I am going into the Air force.

I've just enrolled in Cameron University full time beginning this fall aug 19; it's my first sem so I'm taking up the General Ed before any other courses.
I placed my major as Biology, may change to Health & Physical Education for the better of my interests.

    Questions.

  • Should I not get a bachelors in college if I'm wanting to get into the USAF Academy?
  • If I shouldn't get a bachelors(do you get that in the academy?), Can I still take up the general ed in college & just put myself as undeclared major?
  • Do I even have a chance of getting into the academy?

I aim to score high on the ACT (retaking) this Oct.
I've applied for the AF Reserve yesterday (I'm taking the ASVAB this Tues.
When I get out of college, being full time and all, I'm going to get into the AF Active Duty & get commited.

  • So what are the chances I got of getting into the USAFA?
  • If any, what can I do to bring it up or what should I do now?

If you have any tips, information, help whatsoever regarding this topic, the Academy and/or the Program I mentioned please do tell! Thank you!!

  • Yes, you're going to need a very high gpa. You can take Army ROTC classes but I would not recommend pursuing becoming a full cadet. It would help you more to get involved with athletics & find a way to get in a leadership position.

  • You should strive for excellence in academics & above involvement suggestions as a freshman. At the same time, you need to begin the Academy application process NOW for fall 2010. It takes about a year to complete. You need to continue with plans of earning your degree from Cameron because admission to the Academy is HIGHLY competitive. IF you get in, you will spend four years there no matter how far along you are at Cameron. It will just decrease your credit load.

  • If you don't get into the Academy, you can apply for OTS after you get your undergraduate degree. It is also very competitve so you need to excel either way.
