Hello all, I have a quick question.

I was honorably discharged from the navy, with an re-1 code. I know this is not a problem.

My issue is that I left the service as an e-3. My rate was locked up. I pna'ed the test several times, but never had quite the score to make it.

This week I went to meps, re-took the asvab (pulled a 84 afqt) and passed my physical just fine. But upon returning to my recruiting station to fill out the final paper work I was told that a waiver would have to be sent up before we went any further. So now I am a little nervous. my recruiter has never had to do this before, and i know the C.G. is tough on waivers. Should I be concerned? how long does this usually take? I was trying for the Feb 3 pit stop.

Thank you for your help
-Tom

The experts just might not have checked in yet. I am sure they will ask what your rating was and to tell you to make sure your recruiter has as much info as possible to put in to the waiver request that 'verifies' your story. They may also want to know if you are trying to use your prior USN Rating to get a CG rating or if you are trying to come in as an non rate. Maybe even some other questions.

A certain ex-USN hash slinger, turned CG hash slinger/recruiter will be in here sometime today I am sure, and will not only have good advice, but has a great nose for anything that smells fishy. If you got info on how many people PNAd, how many advancements did happen, etc, it might not hurt your cause.

Master Chief hit it on the nose. Get your evals, and your SWE results of all the Pass Not Advanced. If you can provide anything that said your Rating was locked up, all this will help in the waiver process.

Hopefully you never had an CO's masts. CPO Kalbach, exNavy hashslinger.

Congrats on the AFQT:84 Very Good!

MEPS Physical went okay. Excellent!!

Here's the deal: It's up to the Recruiter if he/she wants to submit a waiver.

If the Recruiter has never submitted a waiver for Prior Service E-3, this might be the first one. That's okay and you can help.

The Recruiter will need to complete Form CG-4965

"Request for Determination of Eligibility for Enlistment"

What you need to do:

1.Employment Experience Resume

2.Handwritten statement by applicant.

Why you want to join the CG? Why you left the Navy as a E-3? What you can bring to the CG? What have you been doing since you left the Navy? (This is very important)

3.Navy Evals

4.Letters and Certificates from the Navy

5.Eqip SF-86 (Google SF-86 start form) The Recruiter will register you in the Eqip system and send you the link.

6.CG-369 Police Checks/NCIC Checks (Recruiter will have you sign this form)

7.CG-4891 Statement of Financial Obligation/Spouse Consent

8.Medical Forms from MEPS DD-2807-1/2808 (Recruiter has these)

9.DD-214

10.DD-370 Request for Reference (Give the Recruiter (3) Names and Addresses for References)

11.DD-1966 Recruiter will fill this out and explain

12.DD-368 Request for Conditional Release or Discharge from Active Duty (Recruiter has this already done or you would not have been able to test/phy's or you're IRR is complete.

13.ASVAB Scoring worksheet.

Note: Include additional documents having bearings on the individual case. These attchments include but are not limited to: Diplomas, certificates of training, birth certificates, marriage licenses , divorce decrees, adoption certificates, court documents, and marks (for prior service)

If you have tattoo's, excessive debt, to many dependents or and civil issues, let the Recruiter know.

Good Luck!

It would depend how long you have been out of the Navy (end of your total enlistment contract).

If you are still in the Naval Reserve, the Navy has your records.

If not, the National Archives have them (9700 Page Blvd, St. Louis, MO.).

Good luck!

I'm guessing you didn't keep a copy for your personal records.

Here's another site to get records as well.
