I'm an IT. I would like to go from active duty to active reserve once my enlistment is up. This will allow me to go to school full time to finish my degree while still being attached to the coast guard. Upon completion of my degree I would like to go back to active duty. Or alternatively, from active duty to ready reserve and then upon completing my degree, going back into the coast guard. But the idea is to go back into the coast guard as an officer. What are some thoughts on this? Would my chances be slim or good in terms of getting back to active duty status and also to go back in as an officer?

Well, alot is up to you on how you want to advance your career. IT2/3 are on the open rate list currently as critical. When you decide to come back, hopefully IT will still be critical or it might now work out. Not every prior Coast Guard person can come back to active duty.
You can "apply" for an Officer position, your package may be more competitve than others, since you have a Coast Guard backround.
