I have been thinking about joining the military for a while and after doing some research I decided that the Coast Guard would be the best fit for me. After arriving at that decision I did a lot more research on the Coast Guard and have been working on getting into shape for the physical tests. I have great confidence that I will be able to meet all the requirements in that regard with a little self training. I don't have any health problems that I am aware of. I don't smoke, I rarely drink and I have never done drugs.

My question is in regard to what might be considered a criminal background even though I was never arrested or charged. Basically when I was in high school I was in a programing class. On several occasions I finished my daily assignments early and found myself with a few extra minutes here and there. I ended up doodling in mspaint or whatever basic drawing program they had on the computers. I was kind of an angry kid and one of the drawings was of a threatening nature. That drawing on the computer was found by another student whom called over the teacher whom called the principal and they called the police. When I walked into class the principal and 2 police officers were there to escort me down to the principal's office. I talked to them for about an hour and ended up expelled. I got a meeting with a review board and was allowed to return to school after getting a psych evaluation from a children's psychiatrist. I passed and returned to school. This was about eight years ago.

I'm not here to argue over how stupid I was for those actions. My question is would something like this be disqualifying? I was never charged so I think I should be alright. I'd just hate to not bring it up and get booted for trying to hide it. Thanks in advance for your time and input.

Advice only since I'm not a recruiter...

When you speak to a recruiter - Have all records available from that evaluation for the recruiter and the MEPS docs.

I don't have any records of this. I'm not sure if it would be in my medical records as I only brought down a paper from the review board, spoke with the psychiatrist for 20-30 minutes then they signed the sheet and I brought it back to one of the board members. I'll make sure to check if its in my medical records though. I've honestly never looked at them.

The police will have record of having been called to the school to come talk to you. The school will have record of your explusion, they will more than likely have record of your psych consult. Best get the required records, it's not so much the law involvement but the medical issue of anger. CPO Kalbach
