Here is the current Open Rate List for prior service. IT3 is on the list. That is no guarantee that the IT Rating Force Master Chief will think your experience and skills will transfer over. You will need to contact your local recruiter to get qualified and then if qualified to join submit a Rate Determination Package up to the IT Force Master Chief for review. You are within 6 months of EAOS so you need to get the ball rolling. www.gocoastguard.com to find your nearest recruiter.

Chief Kalbach,
Your information is old and superceded. The current Open Rate List is ALCOAST 566/07 DTG R 131953Z Dec 07. And yes, IT3 and IT2 remain open. OSCS Burgess, CGRC Regional Supervisor |

Chief Kalbach,
FYI, per ALCOAST 110/08 you're not supposed to post CG msg tfc on internet sites anymore, even if it says "internet release authorized." Link them to the "announcements" page on the public side of the CG web site: http://www.uscg.mil/announcements/ |

Q: Does this mean no one else can post Coast Guard Messages on the web?
A: Once information is posted on www.uscg.mil/announcements, it is in the public domain. These messages can be freely copied and distributed by all webpage visitors, and we highly encourage our visitors to do so. Tip, maybe I'm reading this wrong, but this is from the FAQ from ALCOAST 110/08 where I got the ALCOAST( http://www.uscg.mil/announcements/ ) I posted for the ORL. As Senior Chief Burgess pointed out, I did go to far down the list and got the 2006 release instead of the 2007. I guess I was tired and didn't pay attention to which ORL I provided. If I'm not reading the FAQ wrong, I will post the correct ALCOAST 566/07 that still has IT3/IT2. CPO Kalbach |

Do you think an STS2 in the navy that wanted to be a IT2 in the CG could take advantage of the open rate list. What are the odds of keeping my rank? I Will have 9 years of service and no njp. Also, what critical jobs are there that would allow me to keep my rank. |

Look here first: www.gocoastguard.com and see if your job would transfer over to one of the 18 Coast Guard jobs. That is the key, the Rating Force Master of the specific rating has to review your experience to see if you could retain any rank. When I joined the Coast Guard 16 years ago, my recruiter was a prior service ST that went ET. But with the merger of ET and FT your skills might not transfer. The open rate list is designed for prior service that have a skill the Coast Guard needs, not what the prior service person wants to do. CPO Kalbach |

I am an IT2 in the Coast Guard and from what I understand (from all my crosstalk with Navy IT's) is that you guys do a totally different job than we do here. Its worth putting a determination packet together though to see, but more than likely if they took it you would have to be retrained from the moment you walked into an IT shop.
