Basic Training |
I am currently in the process of submitting my rate determination package. I will be processing out of Puerto Rico. My wife is currently in college and should be done with her bachelors in 2009. I know that where the USCG needs me that is where I'll go and I don't have an issue with that. My first option is to get stationed in Air Station Borinquen or San Juan but I know that it might not be possible. I guess my question is: In the event that I do not get Borinquen or San Juan, can my wife stay behind while she finishes her degree and get housing allowance or live in base housing? If she does get housing allowance, will I get any BAH at my new duty station?
Does anyone know if Borinquen or San Juan are easy to get? I would like to stay here while my wife finishes and then ship out, but like I said I realize its the need of the service first. Has anyone been stationed in Atlantic City? What can you tell me about the area (schools, housing, where to live and where to stay out of, crime, etc)? Thanks! |

This is a really good question for your recruiter to answer. If you are not getting a guaranteed A school after PITSTOP, then you will know what your first duty station is going to be even before you go to PITSTOP. You will be the one that gets BAH, I do believe GEO bachelors get BAH for zip code of their unit. Again, this is something you really need to cover with the recruiter that's bringing you into the Coast Guard, that way you won't get any crossed wires. CPO Kalbach |
