Hey everyone, I looked around the forums and didnt find an answer so I am asking my question here. Everyone says that when you enter the coast guard you normally have a wait up to a year until your a school. My question is what do you do until that time, and do you get to try all the jobs to see which ones you will like? Thanks!

It all depends on the job you want to do and how long the waiting list is. If you want PA, MST, or HS the list is long and wait isn't the shortest. Some of the waiting lists aren't long at all. You do what any other E-2 or E-3 does. Clean, get qualified at your unit, clean, maintain material readiness of your unit, clean, get more qualifications, etc. No matter what you have to start at the bottom of the ladder and work your way up. E-2's and E-3's are a very important part of the Coast Guard, without them the missions couldn't get done. You do not get to try all the jobs, you can observe the people doing those jobs and get first hand info from them. Here's the A school waiting list each unit gets on the 15th of each month. http://www.uscg.mil/hq/cgPC/epm/epm-2/A-SchoolList.pdf CPO Kalbach |
