So I just learned that my ship date has been pushed back because of memorial day (it was the 27), this pushes my A-School back a month. My original post was misconstrued, and I'm sorry about that but what i was trying to ask was is there anyway around this?

I suggest you rethink what you post on message boards and the tact (or lack of tact) you use to post it.

Not really following you. How did Memorial day push back your ship date?

My recruiter told me because May 26 is Memorial day, MEPS will not be shipping anyone out that entire week, so we had to push my ship date back a week, which moves my A school to September.

I understand now. I would think that your best bet would be to talk this over with your recruiter. If there are other options, he or she would be the one that can make them happen. Always communicate with your recruiter first.

Well Mac that's very interesting and something isn't adding up there. I waited until I got to work just so I could check our schedule here and we are forming a recruit company that week. Unless CGRC forgot to tell us not to expect any buses on the evening of 5/27.

So what office are you recruiting out of? I'd like to look into this from my side of the training house.

Master Chief,

The 27th is a West Coast no ship day. Due to the distance of travel they must process at MEPS on the Monday before and ship Tuesday. MEPS is closed Monday due to a holiday so they must wait till the following week. We deal with the same thing in San Antonio due to no having a direct flight to Philly. Not enough time to process and make it to Philly with a lay over in one day.

Chief,
The first draft of his post was rediculously antagonistic towards the Recruiter. Reservation-cancelling bad.

Can't you ship them yourself and not use MEPS. Using MEPS is a convenience, not a necessity. Sometimes it's not even a convenience.

Billy, well that's the same way that they do it over here on the east coast. My son came through the program last fall and even though we live only 10 miles from the TRACEN he still had to do the leave on Monday and overnight at MEPS before shipping back down here on Tuesday.

But if the west coast issue is true it's news to us here at TCCM. Hopefully by tomorrow morning I'll have an answer from the CSM at MEPSCOM to just this question.

There is not a direct flight to Philly from my city either, but they still are able to get there in one day. They can stay in the hotel Monday or make sure they get to MEPS at 0500 on Tuesday. (Hotel always works out better) They have a layover in Charlotte and get to TCCM Tuesday night. They go through their inspect, contract, briefs, etc and get picked up at MEPS between 0900 and 0930 to go to the airport.
If the Monday prior to ship day is a holiday, they just have to projected on the friday.

Due to the travel time for us, our people go to the hotel on Sunday. Inspect, contract, brief on Monday. Back to hotel for Monday night and right to the airport on Tuesday. Not enough time on Tuesday to process and make it to Philly before the bus leaves. I am sure Chief had to deal with the same thing in Seattle.
