Hi Everyone,

I wanted to hear some different perspectives on the types of recruiting offices out there. Mostly, I wanted to compare what life is like at between the smaller and larger offices. Once the AY09 shopping list is completely loaded, I will make up my e-resume, but I want to make sure I have as much info as possible. Can you please tell me what office you are located at and what the pros and cons are, and what the area is like? If you don't want to post on here, you can e-mail me at work or at home:

kevin.a.couture(at)uscg.mil
kcouture25(at)yahoo.com

Thanks a lot, I really appreciate the info.

I am at RO San Antonio. We currently have 9 people and will be going down to 8 after this transfer season. A benefit to having more people in my opinion is that people looking for information get a live person most of the time. With 9 of us, someone is usually in the office doing paperwork or waiting on an appointment. Allows for us to have a little better customer service and not trying to play catch up on 30 messages each morning. Also allows for someone to have an applicant at MEPS who needs a ride and head to another meeting if another recruiter is not busy. We help each other out all the time so that we can be as productive as possible. Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks a lot. Actually, San Antonio was one of the offices I was looking into. Seems like a great area. Other than "A" school and visits, I've really never been off the east coast. A buddy of mine that put in for recruiting also is from San Antonio, and he's the one that got me interested in it.

I hope you guys and gals that applied for this duty understand you go where they send you, and are not doing this to try and get back home. Read the fine print, it's needs of the service and those are big offices. Also, don't be surprised to see the SDAP go down again. It's at a 2 right now.....

Best of luck, it's what you make of it.....

I understand Chief. For the most part, I am trying to find somewhere new that I haven't been before. How can you tell which offices are big or small? Is it pretty much the size of the city? I think at this point that I would be happy almost anywhere I end up.

Most of the midwest offices are small. Minneapolis is small. CPO Kalbach

Soo.. Maybe I'm confused. The shopping list doesn't say it is loading anymore but I also never saw a msg that said it was out yet either. I really thought there would be more billets but I am glad to see the abundance of west Coast.
Also maybe somebody could help me out here. Why does it say I am in basic training and why doesn't it display the screen name I chose and such.

Not sure why there was no message, but it looks like the list is complete. The list is very good. There seems to be a good variety of units on there. I'm just waiting for the message with the successfully screened recruiters. I hope I'm on it and that I get released by my assignment officer.

I'm surprised it's not out yet. There are alot of billets out there this year. One thing to keep in mind, when assigning personnel to jobs, it's not based on assignment priority, it's based on how well you did on the interview etc...

Best of luck to all those that are selected and released, it's going to be a challenging but rewarding job, if you do it right....

Nope, interview has nothing to do with assignment. Interview gives you a "recommended or not recommended". I have been part of the recruiter interview and selection process for the past six years and the interview has never made a difference for assignment, it is between the member and the Special Assignments Detailer after being released from rate.
