What is the maximum debt/income ratio allowed in the Coast Guard? Is it 30%? Does anyone know what is highest debt/income ration allowed for security clearances?
I ask because I am prior service and trying to join the USCG. The problem is that when I got in the NAVY things didn't go as planned (selling the house took longer than expected, income went down 32%) and I had to incur in additional debt. I also had some account go into delinquency. Once I was able to sell the house and clear some debts with what I gained from the sell, then I was able to get my finances squared away for the most part. My pay while in the NAVY was $3,800 a month and when I got out my pay went down to $1200 a month. Will the USCG take this into consideration?
For the clearance side, it is mostly about honesty and meeting your obligations. Late payments YOU tell them about hurt much less than those you don't. (and they will find them) Being current now is a very good sign.
I see you were a PO1 when you left the USN, guessing by your avatar, probably an IT1. What are you thinking about being in the CG?

You are going to have to run the numbers with your recruiter, we have no idea what rank you will be entering the Coast Guard as. I remember when I joined 16 years ago, I had to meet the debt/income ratio or I couldn't join. CPO Kalbach, prior Navy/Army Guard.

Thanks for the reply Master Chief. I used to be an IT1 in the Navy. I am trying to stay in rate and come in to the USCG as an IT. I would love to keep my IT1 but I understand that it is not on the Open Rate List. IT2 and IT3 are so hopefully I will at least come in as an IT2. If not so be it. As long as they let me in I'll take whatever. I know I can make IT1 again.
