Well it looks like the end of my civilian life and the start of my military one is rapidly approaching!
All being well, I should be shipping out to Boot Camp on June 3rd - just wondering if anyone else here is leaving that day, or has any "last minute" words of advice?
I've been pushing myself physically and mentally in the past couple of months, exceeding all physical standards, and learning the 11 General Orders, Phonetic Alphabet, Position of Attention etc.
I'll be getting the guaranteed District option, as well as E-3 due to my College/ASVAB score - so the wifey & I will be heading somewhere in District 1 after Boot Camp, and once we're there I'll apply for my US Citizenship while having a good think about which rating I want to go for. If the Citizenship comes through sooner rather than later, I hope to go for something like IS or OS. If there's significant delays, I'm happy to go for something like BM or YN.
Regardless, I hope to survive Boot Camp as best I can, and look forward to the next 4 years in the USCG!
Never ever give up no matter how horrible things may seem in boot camp. Keep pushing yourself too, that's a real good way to succeed in boot camp. When your company is pushing the deck be the one who doesn't stop and doesn't whine or moan.
Sounding off loud and proud helps too.
I went to boot camp a year ago and I know exactly how you're feeling right now. Believe me, if you have the right mind set you will someday look back at the boot camp experience and actually miss it.
You and I will be reporting to Cape May around the same time, just for different reasons!
After you know your helmsman, this is the best piece of advice anyone can give you...keep your mouth shut, and do EXACTLY what you're told. If they tell you to put your bag in your left hand, don't put it in your right. It's the little things-"attention to detail".
Im heading out June 3rd also. Right now Im just running and swimming as much as I can, making sure I know the general orders forwards, backwards, out of order etc, and trying to eat as much as I can to put on some weight. Other than that I am just trying to not think that in less than 1 week Ill probably be standing in line at Cape May waiting to get shots or see the dentist.
like others said boot camp isnt bad...make sure you do what you are told and all will be fine...i knew all my stuff before i left also and because i didnt show myself to be a smart mouth i never got asked one general order or any other information...dont quit and dont let them get the best of you...no matter how good or bad your company may be they are going to "beat" you during the day...dont let it make you feel like you guys are horrible...its all part of the boot camp game...its only 8 weeks and when its done you will look back and laugh probably...good luck
Going June 3 also, Im coming from Puerto Rico , I just hope the language barrier doesnt get very high LOL.Im doing a lot of running but Im getting tired at the 5th lap but atleast I pass all the other tests. Hope to see you all there... Its just eight weeks.
