I just got my orders and basic training slot from my recruiter and he told me that I'm going to basic next week and afterwards I'm going to Portland, Maine. Is there anyone in Portland right now that can tell me about it? What the barracks are like, what working's usually like, any secrets about the area or anything? I should be coming up there some time at the end of June.

I knew one could get a guaranteed district, but was not aware one could get a guaranteed unit/location. Is that possible?

Yeah, I'm prior service. My recruiter told me to pick 7 units that I wanted and they'd give me orders to one of them before I left for basic.
