Hello I have a question about after boot camp, I know you get a couple of days after to see family then its off to the wild blue yonder but during that time do you make arrangments for your stuff (or your vehicle if you cant drive it)to be shipped to wherever or do you not worry about it for a couple of months while you are getting qualified?

The arrangements in question are made during boot.

You earn 5 days of leave during training. As dizzle posted arrangements are handled at Cape May. Good question for your recruiter. CPO Kalbach

You get 5 days at boot camp, plus x amount of days depending on were are you traveling to. There is formula to calculate days of travel according to the amount of miles you will travel. Those 5 days that you receive incombination to the travel days can be used completely or not. However in some cases if you use all the days that you are given you migth en up in the hole with earned leave.

Carlos, check your facts before you give someone only half of the story. Travel days are calculated based on miles only if the member is driving to their next assignment. And they are calculated based on going from Cape May to that assignment. If they are flying then they only get 1 day of travel.

Travel time and leave have no connection. Members only get 5 days leave and thus can not "go in the hole" for leave balance.

It has been posted in several discussions here that the rules have changed. No more "going in the hole". It is now 5 days leave after boot. Period.

Confused

I always get so entertained when people jump in w/o doing just a tiny bit of research! Hmmmm, the Command Master Chief of Tracen Cape May, using not only his 30 years of experience, but his knowledge of his current unit, answer up. Then someone comes along and gives a disenting view of 'the rules'.

Thanks for giving me something to laugh at!

I second that Master Chief!! Applause Correct me if I'm wrong CUTTERMAN8, but I believe that policy has been in effect for about a year now.

Well young ET you just once again proved the wise words of an old retired GMCM who used to always tell us that, "Coasties don't read". I highly suggest that you partake in the next TCT training session on your cutter for a situational awareness reminder. Now go and ask one of the newly reported members of your crew who graduated from Cape May in the last several months how much leave they got...less any travel days or possible Hometown recruiting the answer will be 5 days.

And Boats, it's only been about 5 months since we made the change.

Thanks Master Chief, I knew it hadn't been too long since they changed that. You are up ther with my old 1LT. Ltjg Cromer. I think he is the battalion commander or something like that. Used to be up there myself as an instructor for Seamanship 1997 to 2001. MC Evans was the Gold Badge then.

Pretty scary when an old worn out retired GM knows the policy and an active duty E-4 doesn't, huh? Wink Big Grin
