ive been in the navy for 6.5 years. i came out as an E5 and now im in the coast guard. the problem is im an E3 now however, i qulaified for OCS through my ASVAB. Is here ANY way and i mean ANY that i can put in for OCS now with a waiver regadless of rank beacause i was a second class. by the way i dont have a degree and i have more than double the amount of credits required. does excelsior help people get dgrees as well?

First off, if you want to go to OCS I would heartily recommend brushing up on your grammar and spelling skills. One of the main duties of many JO's is to submit written reports regarding various subjects to their XO/CO. Poor grammar and spelling makes it difficult for the reader to focus on the message.

Secondly, as an officer (or in any leadership role for that matter) you will be required to open manuals and research numerous subjects regarding CG policy and procedures.

I assure you the answer you are looking for is in the directives system. If you need help finding where the directives are on the intranet ask your supervisor.

Talk with the Education Service Officer (ESO) at the unit.

Note:

Reserve Commision: Military Service - Have not more than six-years of non-Coast Guard Active duty military service.

Temporary Commision: Military Service - Be presently serving in the Coast Guard as an E-5 or above with at least 4 years of active military service,two years of which must be active duty in the Coast Guard.
