Was withB-1-6 at LeJeune on Bn.stand by; and was returning from some entertainment in Winslow,N,C.when we noticed the area where the barracks were ,was all lit up,sure sign of trouble.

We were loaded on to cattle cars and headed towards New Bern,i beleive.
Sat on the airstrip for a few hours, loaded on toC-130's and flew to S.D.Dom Rep,when we arrived ,established perimeter on Golf course, later established C.P. at University, this took place end of april think we departed June 1966.

Someone please add to this or delete from it,don't know if it was a dream or not, have never heard anyone else talk about this.......

Actually, I was in the Med at the time with 2/8, and we were getting buttopned up and ready to roll down there when it all came down. We never got the call to go in or to make the trip back across the Atlantic.

But, at CL we were right in between the 6th and the 10th Marines as barracks went in those years.

Respectfully,
Joe Carey

The reason why I asked that question, I was in AIT when the Dominican happened. about four days before the operation there were two students pulled out of class for no apparant reason. They came back about ten days later and told us they were taken to an airfield, issued chutes and joined up with others. They were literaly pushed out the door with the others over an airfield to take it.
Always wondered what was true and what was bull............

Sgt., as I recall, the first U.S. Army troops in there were from 82nd Airborne Division. Those were the days before subdued insignia and they wore their "fatigue" shirts inside-out. Eek

I remember those white tapes well... I was the first in my unit in Italy to wear the subdued one. Picked them up in Germany.

My question was any airborne drops. Since then, I've googled and there was at first a drop on the airfield planned but at the last minute it was change to an amphibious assult. I was just wondering if it was true what these two fellow students told us when they returned.

So after all;they were b.sn you!dont ever recall any publicity about air drops. You can also Google for the entire action,April 28,1965 to July 1965 was our involvement;then U.N. Troops took over.

Myself went to Nam via Weat Coast,August 1965.

The 82nd didn't make a combat jump into the Dominican Republic. But they must have gotten into some combat because the operation is listed for CIB eligibilty.
