I need to know if any Veteran out there has been refused treatment at any VA facility. I have contacted my Congressman, both Senators, the VA IG office, the National VA Office, and the Senate Committee for Veterans Affairs about an issue I had with my VA facility in December 2007. To date I am still waiting on answers. Also want to know how many were given a VA physical by Doctors who didn't speak English or if this is just a local problem in Fayetteville.
I knew some great doctors at our VA whose command of English left something to desire. They tried. You will always find a certain percentage of doctors at any facility that English is not their first language. They still must be able to talk to the patient.
Congratualtions on your outstanding service. I do not understand why you would be denied VA Healthcare as it is guaranteed to those who earned the Purple Heart Medal. Since your decorations posted on your profile include that medal, it appears someone is falling down on the job. I suggest you contact a qualified veterans service officer today, with a copy of your DD-214 in hand and have them to address this issue with you.
I normally don't visit these forums ever, but I'll reply. I was given compensation for a service connected disability, yet when I asked if I was able to be helped medically, I was literally told, "You are getting comp... what more do you want from us?" That was in Milwaukee. I live in Washington state now and was told to go to the VA hospital for a certain issue. I didn't know but I had to get medical benefits as a prerequisite for what I needed, and I figured that was the end of it. I went in, saw them, told them what I was told in Milwaukee, and they were appalled. They said that if I have a rating, I'm basically automatically accepted. I had no idea. I suppose it depends on where you go.

Whomever said that to you was totally out of line and they need re-training. If you receive VA compensation VA Healthcare is your right. At 10% or more you have free healthcare with no co-pays except non service connected condition prescriptions. For those rated 0% (non compensable) VA Healthcare is provided for that condition regardless of income. You need to see your VSO and get this problem corrected.
I was told by the VA that since I retired with no disabilities I'm classified as a Class 8 and therefore can't use the VA. This was almost three years ago and don't know if anything's changed since then.
I've recently upgraded to Tricare Prime from Tricare Standard so medical care never's been a problem but I was just trying to keep my options open with the VA just in case I couldn't or wasn't able to use Tricare for whatever reason.
I was not Per say, denied VA Benefits, but i have been through the hoops trying to get a PTSD physcritrist for 3 years now, and still nothing, Also i tried to get a chemical panel or whatever it's called and i was Laughed out of the Office. I had Switched my primary care to a local place under the VA, and it's been a joke, i have quit going to that one as i never get seen and when i do it's more ridiculed than anything. I was around quite a few chemicals and i just want to get tested for them and that's been a joke as no one at the VA has any clue what it is, what it's for or anything. And like i said i have been trying to get a Physcritrist for 3 years now, had a VA consler and they told me not to come back LMAO. Is that the Right way to handle ANYONE???
VA is not the only one that gives the run around, TRICARE likes to send you to a Base that is over 120 miles for care with no direction but go to sick call at a Airforce Base and you are not part of that branch. I had to pay for private services out of my pocket. TRICARE do not care if you are a VET that just came back and needs help. And V.A. you look at two or three months of run around and to many forms before you think you are going to get help.
I retired in 1990 after 20 years, I filed and received 20% with several 0%. I obtained a good job and after 10 years I took an early retirement from that job. I never used the VA for anything as I always had real good health insurance. In 2001 I came down with cancer and could no longer work (on my third career). I filed for SSDI and received it and then got medicare. I also filed for an increase from the VA and went to 60%. Now the only reason I go to a VA doctor and put up with the crap is to get my medication free. I really think that if the VA would just let folks like me go to a local doctor and the VA still give me me medication free that they could save money, and be able to help more vets. I really feel for the folks that don't have any choice but to depend on the VA for health care. I do know that if I ever need something major they won't have to worry about me coming to see them for treatment. I just don't trust them that much, since 2001 I've had 6 doctor's at the local VA clinic and none of them would have been my selection in a civilian setting. Sgt D
I'm a 20 year veteran. I was told I could not get medical help, untill I paid back the money I owed the VA.I had also reqwuested and up grade on my disablty. The VA. had told me it would be two weeks and they would let me know about it. I have yet to hear from them. It seems that VA. wants to tell you only what is needed. They seem to put things off untill you get feed up with them and then they do something.I was I was on the list to have my shoulder fixed,It would be 1 yr,before they could get me in.I found outThat they took me off the list becuase they had told me that if I had civilian ins. It would be faster to get it done. Some ins. companies will not do anything if that is the case. What I'm I going to do?George L. Crockre
Why do you owe the VA? About how much? Are you currently receiving Service Connected Disability? Did you formally contact the VA Regional Office by mail to upgrade your disability? Do you have a VSO - search site to definition?
