I am a Iraq Veteran and i am rated 50% through the VA for PTSD. I have been trying several medications to help cope with the effects of the PTSD. Has anyone with PTSD found that one medicine works bettter than others? I my self have found all the meds have had negitive effects so far. I have found that Combat group meetings work well but dont fix it.

WOW. tough question, too hard to answer.
As a PTSD casualty myself, being treated for over 26 years. I have been tried on many medications. FOR ME ONLY, the one that seems to do best is/was/is "Sertraline"

My regiment is sertraline for 12 months then off of it and paxil for 4 months, then back to sertraline. Each veteran and each human body is different though. What I do and thus my advice to you is to do what I have always done and that was to talk to my SHRINK in detail of how my meds are working and when I feel I need to change to something else for a while. I do it because of my belief that meds taken for a long time without any break or change becomes lackadiasical in my body. Talk to your Shrink about it and see what he/she says or thinks. Whatever you decide, NEVER do anything on your own.

There is a separate PTSD board in the Health And Fitness Forums. Try there for more help.

It took nearly 2 years and 9 different medication trials to find what I am now stable on. I take 120mg of Cymbalta, 200mg of welbutrin, and klonopin for anxiety. To control the nightmares and for sleep I take 400mg of trazadone (for sleep) and prazosin (a BP medication)that helps with the nightmares.

I have a great psychiatrist at the VA that has saved my life.
