I have been a member of USAA since 1968 when I was in OCS and during Vietnam. Lately they have been dragging their feet on paying bills with bill payer, transferring money within USAA accounts and making my life miserable with overdrawn accounts and over limit fees. They are not a respectable company to do business with. Check them out on ripoff.com and see what they have been doing to other people. They recently raised my percentage rate on their credit card for no good reason either. It is time to remove my direct deposits from them and go somewhere else. Banking is atrocious with them. Insurance is looking like it is taking a nose dive too. Good luck

Al, I too live in Florida.. and I've had USAA for the last 20 years or so.... a few claims along the way, hail damage to cars, totaled another car, qll screens replaced on pool enclosure a few years ago due to hurricanes, and never had a problem.. Always fast payment.

I do not use their credit card, so I can't comment on that one. I do know if you have them, here in FL and you change.. you will never get them again. better think twice before you make a move.

As for paying bills, I have my cable, telephone, water, elec, car insurance & probably a few others automatically taken out of my local bank account. Never a late charge... never a service charge..

Life is good Wink

Wray... Cool

I've been with them over 10 yrs, and never heard a bad thing about USAA. Wife and I love them, and plan to stay with them many more years. Even gotten some pretty good interest rates for one of the cars and our last house.

I have been with USAA for 13 years. I have renters, auto, motorcycle, and boat insurance through them. When I was stationed in Guam and rode out super typhoon Pongsona, USAA didn’t even have an office on island. As soon as the airport re-opened after the storm damage was sufficiently cleaned up, USAA had adjusters on the very next flight to Guam. Even though many of the roads were undrivable a USAA representative showed up at my rental property assessed the damage to my belongings and totaled car and cut me a check on the spot. The USAA rep even went the extra distance to have fuel delivered to my home for my generator and arranged for a rental car until I could shop for a new one. All in all a real class act. Some others I was stationed with who had other insurance carriers weren’t so lucky. Even if USAA has raised your premiums you would be hard pressed to find better coverage at the same price.
Cheers! Beer

Ok, I am confused here. Many of you say you are not receiving any $ from USAA, however, I have all of my accounts through USAA and I receive $ from them every December as well as I receive $ into my SSA account.
The deposit is credited towards my insurance account, (which can be changed) which in turn lowers my overall 6 month premium.
I also receive my paperwork showing the amount deposited into my SSA account.......so, something tells me either some folks are not paying full attention or they are not getting what they deserve.
I have 2 vehicle loans, home morgtage, and all of my insurance through USAA.

I have been using USAA for almost 10 years. I recently went through my auto insurance and recieved quotes for other companies. I was getting a savings from all from 100-400 dollars cheaper. These were all the same amount of coverage. I call USAA and was told that the cost could not be lowered and there was nothing they could do. Just like what you see on TV "I saved $400 on my insurance with more covage by switcking." Guess what I did??? Sorry USAA.

I love USAA. I have everything through them...best rates.

I just got home and found that USAA is ****ADDING**** some VERY attractive benefits to their Credit cards. One of them is TRIP PROTECTION. If you buy airline tix, and you have to change plans, but didnt pay the extra $$ for the airlines' trip insurance, USAA will take the bill!

There are a couple other just great benefits added on, also.

I've been with USAA for my entire enlistment of (almost)6 years... I noticed that my insurance (auto & renters) has gone up in the past couple of years. at first it was gradual, 5 or 10 dollars. Now it has gone up about 20- 30 dollars! My monthly payment was around 100 dollars in July 2008. This month I payed $200. Next month I'm scheduled to pay $211-ish.

Top Tier customer simply means you have multiple accounts with them (e.g. home & car insurance, checking & savings acounts, investments account, etc.).

I only have auto insurance with them so I still don't know what top tier is, unless they are counting the rebate fund account they have set up.

I am going to go out and bash USAA a little, but I still do take advantage of some of their services. I recently switched my car, motorcycle and property insurance over to State Farm. I am now saving more then $600 a year after the switch. Additionally, I almost doubled my coverage on my motorcycle and property insurance policies. If you have Progressive Insurance for your motorcycle, which is who USAA recommends, then I would highly recommend checking into State Farm or one of the other major insurance companies. I was able to drop my m/c insurance policy from $670 a year w/just comprehensive insurance down to under $400 with comp and collision.
Also, I recently received extremely poor customer service when filing a claim for a break-in I suffered. USAA managed to find a number of "loop holes" to avoid making payment for most of the items that were taken. On top of this, it took almost a month to get a check for the stuff that was covered.
Aside from these gripes, USAA's free checking, savings, credit card and IRAs have been very good to me and I have no intention of getting rid of any of them.

I just feel the need to share with you all a recent experience. A Friend of mine recently told me he was paying $195 a month on his auto insurance for 2 vehicles and 2 drivers with USAA. To me that seemed a bit high, so i told him to get a quote from the company that i use and he got quoted $79 a month for the exact coverage. Needless to say, he canceled USAA and moved over to the new company. Let's just say Cavemen really can do it.

I still bank with USAA, for now, I'm considering moving to BOA because i like the round up system and having a brick and mortar to walk into. But never will I keep insurance with them. I did once get a quote from them on home owners insurance and it was 5 times more expensive than the local farm bureau.

Just wanted to put this out there for those interested more in saving money. Getting a quote never hurt. You may or ay not get savings, but you would never know unless you take a look at it.

At the risk of sounding like a commercial I've been with GEICO since I was on my parents car insurance. I insure an '87 Volvo, 94 Ford Ranger (liability) and full coverage on brand new Kia. Total $62.00 a month. Rolled the ranger on kodiak needed the whole side replaced. Truck totaly repaired and back on road in one week after initial contact with GEICO. It does pay to be over 50 to get these rates, but they were always competative even when I was younger I'll always stay with this company.
