I have a war going on against wachovia... hopefully this will keep anyone
from making the same mistake by choosing them that i made.

Im out of state military and they wouldn't let me close my account without going to a branch so they were nice enough to let me keep it open with .01 and then inactivate it.

Recently money was temporarily desposited in the account assessing a $2.00 fee to reopen the account and another $2.00 fee since there was no direct deposits going into this acount anymore. The deposit was then debited, essentially leaving me an overdraft of 3.99. BLAM! 38.99 overdraft fee and $8 service fee to pay over the phone.

Over the course of December their automated calling service visited me every other day at 8 am trying to get payment which I attemted to make EVERY TIME! After the new year i was nice enough to get the same call from a real person and I again made a payment when asked Jan 3rd. I got several other calls until the 10th and they guy says something to the effect of "well it must not have gone though.. lets try it again". Well apparently a couple of the "attempted payments" did go through and i was double charged.

Furious at this point, and the fact that every time I call I get bounced to 4-5 people (each oblivious to my account problems and information) i blow up on a customer service rep. After getting all mad, yelling and cursing she is nice enough to cancel the charges and close my account......

Well... what about the double charges totalling 93.99 that i made at this point.... this is the good part!

Instead of being sent back to my current checking account from which the funds originally came, they were deposited into my "closed" wachovia account and guess what....... 2.00 to reopen and 2.00 no Direct deposit fees.

Sound like groundhog's day???

Every time I call I spend at least 30-40 min to get absolutely nothing accomplished. Worst customer service i have ever seem in my 30 years of life.

Did you know wachovia charges
5.00 to thier customers for using others' atms?
2.00 to use an actual person as a teller more than a certain number of times a month?
More fees to get anything done with a real person over the phone?

Sooo.. thanks for hearing me *****... Remember this next time you are in the market for anything financial.

Sometimes i feel spoiled using USAA. I think they are the best financial instution ever!

Defending Wachovia: I have never had a problem with them. I am actually very impressed by their services. During Christmas a merchant charged my account 3 times. One call to Wachovia and they called the merchant and straightened it out. I listened to the entire conversation and was very happy with the service.

As far as the charges, it depends on the account you have. I can use the bank teller all I want and ATM fees are only $2 (plus what the other bank charges you). Why use an ATM in 2008? It's called a check card, everyone takes them and if you lose it, you aren't out any money. Cash is almost obsolete!

Wachovia has been great to me and I will be a customer for a long time to come!

All large financial istitutions are in it to make money. These types however use one tactic of trying to get you to give up so they can reep the benefit of their "mistake".

I went through a simular situation that SwimPro did a long time ago with First Union.

Anyone who chooses to do business with these types of banks will eventually go through this.

I have several accounts with them... On the rare occasion I had a problem I talked to them and they were very helpful & removed the charge..

Perhaps you were talking to the wrong person, or didn't make your point clear.

Banks like everything else have rules.. if you don't want to follow them, or don't like them, get another bank.... I have several.

Cash, while almost obsolete will keep you out of credit card debt. There are way too many people living above their means, getting further & further into debt.

I have no trouble using a "debit" card, I record my charges and always know my balance...but, I find cash works best for my wife... if she has to shell it out ... it lasts a lot longer than her simply signing her name using a plastic card.

I like cash ... it can be hidden under the mattress easily. It doesn't seem to do any good to hide my atm card under the mattress tho ...
