i think i may have screwed myself when i transfered last year and didnt reenlist. i have 11 months on my current enlistment left and i was planning on waiting till this enlistment was up before reenlisting. it looks like the zone B bonus is going away for me and i will lose it all together. is it possible for me to reenlist now or am i too late?

well i have been reading up on the PERSMAN and the PPPM and i cant find anything that would keep me from reenlisting right now. i could be wrong and if i am please chime in. in the PERSMAN in 3.c.4.b it says that you must reenlist no later than 3 months after discharge or release from AD but doesnt say anything about 3 months before like i was told by others. i hope that i was misinformed and i can reenlist.

Look on the message itself. Below the multiples, it should say something to the effect of not being able to enlist no more than 90 days out. I can't access ALCOAST 353/09 at the moment but previous SRB messages always state the 3 month requirement.

ET1,
You should always check w/ your YN and the PPPM for those type of questions. Having said that, I know from personal experience that you can only reenlist within the 90day window of your expiration. There are few exceptions to this rule. One being, when you are required to obligate time when transferring or excepting orders. Since you have already transferred, you will not be eligible to reenlist early or lock in on the current Zone B SRB.

I just looked it up, and I am sorry to report there will be no Zone B for the ET Rating (Effective 16 July 2009). Zone A for ET2/ET1 went down to 1.1 as well (but w/ a 3.0 MK92 Kicker now). I sort of expected this to happen with the high retention rate and the big loss of the SRB funding this FY.

I jsut came from the CSC here on base and talked to the YN1 up there and he looked at my orders and it says that i am suppose to obligate 4 years before transfering here but they didnt make me reenlist before coming here. he thinks that i will have to reenlist and have to have it backdated so im keeping my fingers crossed on this one. worst case senario is i can't reelist.

You should have gone through a Unit Checkout & PCS councilling, prior to your departure. If you had, you would have been aware of all this information. Hindsight is 20/20 I guess. Hopefully, your present unit will make a decision prior to the 16 July (0 SRB) cutoff. However, I don't remember if there is a Zone B for ET1 presently.

I do believe that you are not "required" to reenlist if you have more than a year left on your enlistment and if you not going oconus. I know b/c I looked it up, and I transferred last year w/ only 1yr left; and I am now reenlisting in July. However, you should have been made aware of your option to reenlist prior to your departure. I choose to forgo reenlistment until my time ran out, since I'm playing the bonus game/gamble as well.

I just learned something new after rereading the Perman: those that previously received a 6yr bonus (or 2 3yr bonuses) will not be eligible for another. My YN didn't catch this one. Hmm, not sure if I'm reading that right. I hope not, b/c I need new shoes and a vacation to Miami. However this may not apply to those who reenlist prior to the end of their six yr reenlistment; since you don't really complete those 6yrs. If you want to get technical.

Reference: CIM 1000.6A 3.E.8 Reenlistment/Extension Bonus Program
"d. must not have previously received a six-year bonus or more than one three-year bonus for enlistment, reenlistment, or extension in any Reserve component (a member who received a bonus for a previous three-year period is ineligible for a six-year bonus; to receive a second three-year bonus a member must enter into the subsequent reenlistment or extension for three years, not later than the date on which the enlistment or extension for which the first bonus was paid would expire, and the designated rating or unit must still be bonus-eligible)"

CIM 1000.6A 4.A. Page 13
"d. Members with less than one year of obligated service remaining on a first enlistment will not normally be eligible for a PCS transfer, with the exception of transferring members from isolated and other OCONUS duty to process members for discharge."

As in, those w/ more than a yr left on their enlistment can transfer without having to obligate more time.
