LETSGO- I just sold a house in Greensboro. You need to pay attention to your new property taxes.
Guilford county taxes have gone up an average of 100.00 a year for the last 4 years. This year it will be 50.00 on a 200,000 dollar home. Doesn't sound like much until you factor in that you also pay property taxes on your vehicles and pets. If you live within the city limits you will pay both county and city taxes. Also your home value gets assesd annualy so any improvement are taxed or if they decide the value of your house is much more your rate will increase annually. Greensboro was just ranked the number 3 emptiest city in the country, meaning more empty houses and apartments than the rest of the country So they are gearing up to generate revenue. Some of the proposals are a mileage tax for your vehicle, every year you will be required to record your mileage at inspection you then receive a bill for every mile you traveled that tax year.

Thats why I sold when it was all said and done my mortgage grew by 300 a month in a few years.

I have a friend who retired and purchased a house in Rockingham couty out by summerfield his taxes are less than half of what I paid and he has 2 acres and his son goes to a good school.
I DONT WANT TO SCARE YOU, JUST ASK ABOUT THE TAXES AND THE PROPOSALS.

Good luck

Sounds like you've got everything covered.

Edit: But ouch on the taxes for Greensboro. So if I lived there and my clownfish spawn, will my taxes go up?

I should have specified, I am transferring to Greensboro, but the house we are buying is in High Point. Does that make it any better, or are they in the same boat?

Hey I'm sorry I didn't get back, I owned the house for 6 years but I haven't lived in Greensboro for 4 years I had planned on retiring there but my job took me in a different direction. Don't know much about High Point, but I do know that they have the choice HS plan.

This is where you can choose the HS you go to. The only problem is that if your choice is full than you have to go elsewhere even if you live in the better school district. I'm not to keen on this idea. Good luck.

I believe the window on these low interest rates have started to close.

Last week saw a terrific bond market pounding that bumped rates up above 5%.
