Does anyone know how many days you get when processing for retirement? I've heard somewhere around 20 days and just wanted to know for sure.

I found that very information by reading all about it in the Persman and visiting PSC's webpage...RIF...reading is fundemental.

Also...IF you are retiring to a different area than your final unit, you can request your point of discharge be closer to the area you are retiring to and get an additional 20 days at the unit closest to your retirement area. You are basically TAD at this unit until you retire and outprocessed though them. Details in the Personel Manual, but it is an option to consider if you want to get back to your retirement area ASAP. Of course, Commands have to approve. I know it works for some depending on their situations. I researched it, but it did not meet my timeline...

Correct, 20 days out processing point and 20 days permissive is the way it was worded from my command. Then there is the 40 days of terminal leave, that gives plenty of time for job-hunting.

So if I'm understanding Chap 12 correctly, I would go on permissive orders to "Unit X" for 20 days, then start my 20 days administrative absence and 90 days terminal?

All command approved dependent of course...

Would that change my BAH location, or since it's permissive orders, would I still be attached to the old unit?

I don't know about the BAH, Mine didn't change since it was already at the "designated place". I was a geo-bachelor in New Orleans.
