Hey there! fairly new to the boards.. hubby left for coast guard basic on june 30th! Posted this on another board, but the actual cg boards seem to be a bit more active - so maybe maybe someone can help... i'm just wondering what to expect for his first paycheck.. i know pay comes on the 1st & 15h..so i'm wondering - will i recieve FULL bah for the month of july on the 15th??? his recruiter told me i "should".. but just wondering what everyone else's experience was.. it makes sense considering it's for the whole month of july - but i know at the beginning there can be delays.. same with his pay.. will i only get half & then the rest in august?? or will i recieve full on the 15th?? any help or insight would be greatly appreciated thanks!

Good question, I didn't think recruits received BAH while they were at Cape May.. Hopefully someone will be able to clearify this question for you and your not waiting for rent money based on what a recruiter told you....They all say what they need to get you to sign on the dotted line.

Since you are married your husband will receive BAH for the area you are currently living while he is in training. You can find the current rate on this website.

However, you will need to make sure the details are taken care of at MEPS before he leaves for training. He will need to bring a copy of your marriage certificate. This will be required to start up your housing allowance. Additionally, it will allow you to complete paperwork for spouse's military ID card. The paperwork will be mailed to you, along w/ the directions on how to take it to the nearest military base in order to receive an ID card.

As soon as he signs that contract, you and any children will be also eligible for health and dental care.

He may also be eligible for separation pay, while he is away at training. But, you will need ask a Yeoman or Recruiter for clarification.

Per her post he left for basic on June 30th, so your good advice may be a tad late.

I'm an unmarried ET, and I was able to find that information fairly easy. You always want to ensure you are completely informed of your rights, benefits, and obligations, prior to signing on any dotted line. I'm sorry that she was not informed of all this information prior, but unfortunately we are moving towards complete self-service CG. At this point, I don't even have a Yeoman. I have to do my own research and admin paperwork or it just will not get done.

I would check back with the his recruiter or call the Yeoman at Cape May about her situation. If they still haven't presented their marriage cert to admin, they will still need to do so in order to change their status, start BAH-with Dependants, and for Separation Pay if going to Sea.

thanku to all of u for the info Smile my marriage cert. & all of that was indeed handled before he left for basic.. and yes, i am collecting bah + salary..however i was just confused as to what to expect in his first paycheck being that the 1st would sort of be skipped over??? rumor has it that it it normally backpaid in august.. as for insurance, i was told by the recruiter & others that i can't get my military id untill AFTER the hubby's graduation because he needs to be present??? if anyone knows of a way around this do share lol. but from what i know i need to wait untill he's done, but get it done before we move. anyways, sorry if i've confused any of u, and thanks again!

If you missed the 1st of the month pay cut-off then he should be paid retroactively the next pay period, which is the 15th. Since we just passed the July 15th pay period, then I'm guessing he didn't get his BAH yet. Hopefully on Aug 1st you will get two months of BAH. If not, contact his YN or SPO.

In regards to receiving your ID prior to his return home, I'm unsure. What I have read online is that some MEPS send spouses documentation w/ authorization and instructions to receive their Deps ID. I am unsure if this is standard for all MEPS and for all services. You might want to check with his recruiter and the MEPS he was processed at.
