Basic Training |
Okay guys heres the story.
I commanded my unit's Regulation Drill team this weekend at the Southeastern Regional drill meet. We did well got 2nd place but one thing bugged me. When I first learned to command, when I went to the citadel two years ago (Juliet Flight!) we were taught to march backwards on flanks. My ASI told me it was optional at drill competitions. So I did it, very well, even stopped right where I reported in without looking. When I got my score-sheet from the head judge later that after-noon it said "NO MARCHING BACKWARDS!" I was deducted points. Here's my question: is this prohibited by 36-2203? If so, why is it? It looked really good. -C/1Lt Weil |

HAHAHA!!! I was in Juliett at the Citadel 2 years ago too, first week. Anyway, obviously since I went there too I was taught to march backwards because you never turn your back to your flight. I've been on a winning drill team for 2 and a half years now and I've never heard of marching backwards being prohibited. My drill team coach is a former Marine and has always allowed us to march backwards. All of our commanders have always marched backwards in basic drills and we've always placed well. That's very odd that it was prohibited. I would like to know what the regs say about that.
