By chance is anyone else here competing in the Sock Wars III? Mailed out my first "kill" yesterday and am hoping to not get the deadly finished socks soon. Cool

Okay, you peaked my interest, but I am not a knitter. It all sounds really interesting. I would think it could be a bit difficult to finish knitting a pair of socks that someone else started.

Good Luck!

It's really not that hard. We have a certain gauge to keep when knitting this pattern. As long as you stay with that you are fine.

Sgt Mom, I can see where it would work in theory, but I have tried to quilt using others work, and it usually doesn't turn out nearly as well as you hoped it would.

Perhaps next year, but I'm too new to knitting to attempt it. My first pair of socks were just cast on last night- I figured that would be OK for my travel knitting.

I love socks! It's a nice small project you can take along in the car, waiting at doc appts and so forth.

Noooo. If you knew how much fabric I own, I can't start collecting yarn too! (Actually, I owned a couple of knitting machines, but I never really got into it.)

I've got yarn, fabric, fiber to spin into yarn, etc, etc, etc! LOL I saw one post online where the lady referred to herself as a polygamist crafter - that fits me too! Cool

Working on my second set of socks now. Should have them in the mail by the end of the day!

Another week has gone by, are you still in the war or did you receive some deadly socks?

I'm still alive! LOL Waiting on an unfinished pair of socks again to continue with the battle. We started with 1153 warriors and 562 are now dead. So, I've made it roughly half way through the war. Cool

Still waiting on socks to arrive! I emailed the lady I "killed" to find out status of them. She had been waiting for "A" to send them to her when I killed her. She had been waiting a month! So, she contacted "A" and told her to just mail them to me so I could continue.

Supposedly "A" put them in the mail back on May 30th and they still are not here.

I have a feeling I may get killed before this lady ever sends the socks to me.

The lady running it decided to cut it short! She sent out an email a week or so ago and told everyone still in the game to send a postcard or note to her in Ireland. Then yesterday she pulled a card out of a bowl and declared that person the winner! Such a bummer when you've been working on all these socks and trying to "stay alive". We're still supposed to finish the socks we're working on and send them to our target. Then, if we have not received socks by sometime in July we're to email her and volunteers will knit socks to send to us.

I doubt I'll join the "Official" Sock Wars next year with this kind of outcome.

I don't blame you! What an awful thing to do to all the people who were working so hard to stay alive. I hope she had a really good reason to stop the war early.

When you are finished you will have to post pictures of the socks you had to make.

I made 3-4 pairs that I forgot to take photos of! I'm finishing a pair now and I'll try to remember to take a photo. Or, if I did around in some of my memory sticks I'll probably find some other socks I've done before.

If you'd like to do an unofficial Sock War, what about doing one to benefit Socks for Soldiers? If you put the word out on Ravelry, you'd probably get oodles of volunteers, and maybe some luxe yarns, needles, and notions to add to a nice prize package. No matter how it turns out, some grateful servicemembers will get hand knitted socks, and you'll get to go on the sock knitting warpath.
