Does anyone have any experience with stripping and painting furniture? I have a dresser and nightstand that are currently green and I want to paint them white. I've got the stripping done on both pieces except for the tops. When I tried to strip them I realized that they're fiberglass (I think) and not wood. So how do I get those ready to paint? Sand it down as far as I can to hopefully reveal the paint so I can strip that or if I just sand it enough that the gloss of it is gone will that be enough that I can just paint over it?

Any help would be appreciated! TIA!

The only thing I can tell you is that you should not sand fiberglass because it can be very hazardous if you breathe in the fibers.

are you sure it is fiberglass, sometimes the tops of funiture have a stonger finish or are laminate. If you are painting you should be able to prime with a very good primer, like kills, and then paint. Make sure the surface is a little rough..make sure you wear a mask. It doesn't have to be very rough just not slick. For more protection sand with a sanding sponge very fine grit, then you can use poly urathane. Sand lightly between coats if you want grater protection. I did my kitchen counters and used them for 3 years with no problems, till we had the money to replace them. No need to use polly if not high use.
Good luck
