While everyone would fully concur that no war is or ever has been desirable and should be avoided at all costs and only resorted to when all avenues have been exhausted, what have so far been your favorite wars in history and please separately elaborate on why, for each one named.

My favorite is the Pig War. There were no casulties-other than the pig-and the border was finnally established in the Pacific North-West. And with participants as varied as George E Pickett, Winfield Scott, and Kaiser Wilhelm I of Germany, just to name three, what's not to like? Unless you are kin to the pig. Wink

The 1898-1902 south african boar war. What i like about it. The fact that 3 future world leaders fought in the same battle and didn't know what they would become. Here some trivia for you.

Who were the leaders that were there?

What battle was it?

And bonus point's for anyone who can guess which world leader manage to get capture and then escape.

south africa.

And ghandi future leader of the indian peace movement.

Church hill was a reporter at the battle.
louis botha commanded the boer's.
ghandi was a medic.

Church would pass ghandi on the way the front and ghandi would pass him on the way toward's the med station. If They knew what they would become in the future. I wonder what they would say. 3 world leaders all on the same field and didn't know.

Ah. I just noticed that the the spell-checker is a bit on the dim side (Churchill becoming "Church hill" for example) Big Grin . It's not the kind of mistake that a human makes, certainly not when discussing history.

The War of Jenkins' Ear (1739) has always held a great fascination for me. It was declared eight years after the "atrocity" upon which it was based occurred. I admire the title, the Caribbean setting, England versus Spain, privateering etc.. Haaaarrrr...
