Personally, I would say that the recently released movie 300 is probably the most inaccurate movie I've seen to date. The movie doesn't even mention the 700 Thespians and 900 Harlots that ate it, and hardly gives credit to the 1,400 other greeks that died. While I enjoyed the movie for pure entertainment purposes, it kind of angers me that many people will now think that they know something about the Battle of Thermopylae (or the Big T, as I call it when I don't feel like mispronouncing it)

Here are some desktop backgrounds for the innacuracy of movie.

Off the top fo my head, Flying Tigers, starring John Wayne. This movie probably started the myth that the AVG was flying combaat missions well before Pearl Harbor.

Well, how about the movie Pearl Harbor? They spent big money making set for the battleships, then used Spruance Class Destroyers and ohter newer ships.

The Flying Tigers does have its timeline messed up. I did like 300 even though it was inaccurate.

Zulu is a good film, but it gets many of the details of the Battle of Rorke's Drift wrong. I love the movie, but accurate it isn't!

Another problem is that the movie had a fighter pilot taking part in the Doolittle Raid. The mission was flown by members of the 17th Bomb Group.

Braveheart.

Lowland Scots in kilts with painted faces, not tomention riding horses in kilts. Do not forget the depiction of the battle of Stirling Bridge that forgot to include the bridge

300 wasn't promoted as a historically accurate movie though. The director flat out said that he was in it to make it fun and cool looking and it's the idea that counts.

Windtalkers is a really inaccurate movie.

Does begging and pleading count as foreplay?

The Perfect Storm. How I got left out of those scenes on the bridge of the TAMAROA is beyond me. I guess artistic license knows no limits. Big Grin

Harlots, the Greeks had loose women fighting with them?

You mean Helots.

The Greek forces:

Spartans - 300
Thespians - 700
Phocian - 1,000
Thebans - 400
Spartan Helots - 900
Other allied forces - 3700

On the third day of the battle the Greek forces were in danger of being encircled, Leonidas ordered the withdrawal of the bulk of the army and was to fight a rear-guard action with the Spartans, Thebans and Helots, the Thespians volunteered to stay, bringing the total force available to fight the final Persian assualt at around 2,000.

Total Greek casualities for the three days of fighting was around 2,400 men.

Yeah, it was fake but the movie naver pretended to be based on an actual historic event. You could say the same thing about The Dirty Dozen. By the way, remember that scene in Dirty Dozen where Jim Brown is gunned down by "Germans?" Those weren't Germans. They were ticked off Browns fans, angry that their star running back retired to go to Hollywood! Wink
Another movie I like but do not care for the inacuracies is The Great Escape. Just a couple of the errors were...
No Americans took part in the escape. They were moved to another camp monthes before.
No one stole an airplane.
And then there was The Bridge on the River Kwai...
That's enough of the negative waves!

Dee Dee Dee! Roll Eyes my bad. maybe i should stop relying on Wikipedia Roll Eyes (BUT ITS SOOOO EASY!)

and two other ones that are terrible.

Behind Enemy Lines:
Owen Wilson and his curvy nose doing this, while it's not meant to be historical, COME ON!

Windtalkers:
Nicholas Cage mowing down Japanese soldiers firing a Thompson from the hip.

But Mr Goblin, I was taught in BMT that in heavy combat you don't put the rifle(or machine gun) up to your shoulder to fire. You point and fire and hope to hell you hit something.

The Japanese did not use twin engine aircraft at Pearl.

In one movie, either Bombers B52 or Strategic Air Command (both propaganda movies)the fire chief caught a Soviet spy on the base by the way he was checking a fire extinuisher.

The Patriot was totally wrong! When historians used during filming tried to get things changed, they were ignored by the Hollywierd people.

So the historians pulled a stunt on the movie people by feeding them the name of a fictitious fort. The Hollyweird people bought it!

Can we just add "Anything made by or featuring Mel Gibson that claims to be historical" to the list?

He started bad with Gallipoli and went downhill.

We would be risking an out of control Gibson rant but I'm willing to take that chance...
