But my husband is a 25 something and is being reclass as a 25S. He is going to FT. Gordon in FEB/MAR. My problem is we got married but Im not listed on his orders. Isnt there a way to get this changed before he leaves so we can get housing?
He needs to contact his servicing personnel services battalion to get his orders amended. When reclassing to 25S it is considered a PCS move to Gordon since the training is over 5 months long. When I was reclassing at Gordon I knew other soldiers who were reclassing with me that had on post housing. I don't think it's worth the hassle though. Why move everything you own just to live somewhere for 6 months and have to move again?
My husband's at Gordon and is 25S. His training is 26.5 weeks long. BUT classes aren't starting just yet, so it will be longer. As far as I know, 25S has not been split, but I did hear 25U is going to be split up soon.
It has been split in the sense that there is are 2 different blocks of training a soldier can go to, tactical or strategic, theoretically depending upon his or her unit of assignment. 25S soldiers (or 31S when it was done that way) used to receive both blocks of training that would take close to a year to complete.
Yeah, 25S training path is split up and has been for awhile, regardless of what you or your husband was told. The first 15 or so weeks is the common core training that everyone receives then after that everyone is split up, some complete the strategic training and others complete the tactical training. The second part is considered "assignment oriented training" but I've known people receive strategic training but report to a tactical unit and vice versa. This occasionally happens so don't put too much hope into that.
My husband was at Ft. Gordon for training or schooling for 10 months. It was not worth it to me, to pack up and move just for that long. I stayed with my Mom for those months, till he got a permanent duty station, and we moved as a family then. If it is less than a year, it is not worth the hassle of moving, if you ask me. This comes from an "old" army wife, of a retired Army man. We retired at Ft. Gordon, GA in 1991. Our sons still live in Augusta, so we go there about 4 times a year to visit.
