Basic Training

I am just wondering how life is for prior service (E-5) going through AIT. Are treated like a E-1 again. I also have a family, how long deos my school have to be in order for them to be able to PCS there with me? I know that in the Air Force if your school is over 20 weeks, your family can move there with you. How is it for the Army.

Thanks for the help.

Prior service are housed in separate barracks and don't have the restrictions that IET soldiers have. You won't interact with them except at the FOB, your classes, and Capstone. I believe the Army has the same length requirement the Air Force does. As a 25U I knew several people who lived off post with their families.

I'm kind of spinning off above question. My husband's 25F is phasing out and it looks like instead of giving him a choice the powers that be have reclassed him to a 25B. The email said his classes will be about 5 months long. I know the army won't pay for us to move with him but could he live off post while in school if we are there?

It depends on the command - once a soldier reaches phase 5+ (as a 25b anyways, don't know if this is across the board), he can put in an off-post living packet. No promises on whether it gets approved or not. Are you the MrsMick that does myspace layouts for Army/Airborne?

Theres no housing on post for army families who are in training but you can live off post with him if he puts in a packet. Thats only if hes not an initial-entry training soldier.

the hudkins: Your statement is not correct. I just finished 25B class two days ago and had 2 MOS-I students who lived with there wives and children ON base. Not sure of the process but it can happen.

I second SPC, my husband had a friend whose family lived on-post. Again, depends on the mood of the command on any given day.

My post is based off the info that was put out while I was a student there. Sure you could live on post as a mos-I student but you will most-likely live temporary lodging. It was so over-crowded when I was there that a third of the mos-T students lived off-post in hotels.

Phase V+ Soldiers can live in on post housing (Gordon Terrace, Olive Terrace) if they are married and are approved to do so.
