I enlisted in the Army national guard as a 25Q, as that is what my recruiter recommended for me. After doing more research I'm having second thoughts, right now it sounds like this MOS is almost slowly being phased out.
Should I reclass ASAP to something different? I'm thinking of going into intel (maybe something like 35N or 33W or something similar) I was discussing this with a recruiter at the recruitment office and he said to be honest he would be surprised if as a 25Q I did anything beside fix radios all day(not my idea of fun)
You will be doing much more than fixing radios. You will be setting up antennas, generators, radio systems, camoflauge, and if you're lucky, tents. It's one of the most backbreaking jobs in terms of actual manual labor but once the radio shot is in you don't have to do anything except crowd 4 people into the shelter and watch the portable DVD player... So it's not so bad.
25N is the new MOS in the signal corps (it's like a 25Q but the newer equipment) and 25S (Sattelite operators) are the smartest ones that make the most money when they get out.
I am a 25Q, it is not being phased out for a while. Though there will no slots at the SSG level, SFC becoe 25W. I actually had fun doing it. It is not the most glamorous job but it is the same with most commo jobs. If you are thinking of reclassing maybe 25B, automations. 25S will be hard to get into.
