First hello to everyone here. I'm 26 and enlisted April 14th as a 25 sierra. So far I feel great about my choice. Signals interested me and during the recruiting process my recruiter found out 25S was highspeed and vacant and wanting something high tech I picked it as my MOS. The others I were interested in were either excess or pretty much taken care of.
I'll be shipping to Ft. Benning on June 3rd for BCT and then head to Ft. Gordon of course for AIT. Luck of the draw of Benning, they weren't sure. They weren't sure they'd be able ship me for training this quickly. Whenver I come back, no idea when right now, I'll be with the 256th CO C SIGCO out of Lafayette, LA. My unit is already on alert for early 2010. So far, I am happy about my choices and my personal outlook. I enlisted so I could go to college and the tuition exemption is nice. Right now want to get an Engineering bachelors at either ULL or LSU. I'm just sharing my enthusiam. Thank you. |

Good for you troop. I served with the 256th BCT in Iraq 2004-2005. They're a good unit.

I've been a 25S for almost 5 years now. 4/10 MTN out of Fort Polk, LA.
I'm glad to hear you are happy with your MOS choice. It really is the top of the signal food chain, as far as I'm concerned. You'll see what I mean. |

Thank you both for your support.
Apparently it was an MOS they'd been trying to fill for a while. My ASVAB and line scores were high and I could have picked pretty much anything. 93 on ASVAB and my lowest line was 120. My recruiter checked and when I saw this was "vacant" it made up my mind. I am not 100 percent certain but I may be the only Guard member who is 25S. Not sure if he meant vacant state wide or just in the 256th. Either Signals or Electronic Maintenance were the two fields most appealing. I am very happy and positive about my MOS decision. I know it is a very important MOS and even outside of that it was something I really am interested in doing. Not to mention hearing they really wanted to fill the MOS and had been looking for someone to. It was like everything said, "This is for you." I have been reading and learning all I can. When I do something I am driven to do the best I can at it, and won't settle for not excelling at it. I got the call just about two weeks ago that my unit is on alert, and like many not looking forward to the possibility but not really worrying or scared about it. Actually I am pretty excited about going to BCT the closer I get to the 2nd of June. Thanks again. |

I had one question I'd forgotten about. Where would I be working on deployment? Most of what I hear it is in an FOB. Is that right? And what is the working situation like if you are in and FOB or a "fobbit"?
Thanks again. |

I deployed as a 25U with them. I would never do it again.
