From what I've been told from some of my NCO's above me, my lodging for 25U training "may" be in a hotel for the duration of my stay. Is this true? What exactly is that like? Would I be able to trust the housekeeping with my personal stuff in my room? If no hotels are involved, what is the barracks on post like, i.e. # of soldiers to a room (MOS-T) and what can I have in my room? (I'm thinking about bringing a desktop computer for studying.... maybe a little gaming.. Hah. ) I'm a KYARNG Reclass from 96U/35K. My unit was disbanded and I had to find a new MOS, 25U. I start the drive to Fort Gordon this Thursday.
I left Gordon in February, so some things may have changed.. but lodging in hotels seemed to fluctuate depending upon the availability of on-post barracks. Each unit did it differently, and so I can't speak for the 25Us specifically, some units would assign soldiers to hotel rooms only to recall them a few weeks later when on-post billeting became available. I never heard of any issues with security in hotels, but as in all hotels I wouldn't leave cash lying around.
The barracks themselves on Gordon vary, but most are designed to be occupied by 2 people with a shared bath, either for that room only or shared with another 2-man room. There aren't any real restrictions on things in your room (other than the obvious, such as weapons and such), so a computer wouldn't be an issue. There are cable companies that handle TV/internet connections on post, Charter is the only one that comes to mind.
