I'd like to second this question.. going down there for 25S re-class, and would like to know any experiences anyone has had here (previously deployed prior-service type comments especially welcome) .
Warrior FOB on Ft. Gordon is just a time killer. Remember the victory forge ftx from basic training? Well take that and dumb it down, then you get FOB training at Ft. Gordon. You won't get any real training out of it. That's just my personal opinion though. Waste of time and Army money.
FOB is not really that big of a deal. You will go out the Wednesday after you get here and stay out there 1 week. You will get 2 hot meal a day and 1 MRE for lunch.
Now as to the FOB. Really depends on how many MOS-T and MOS-I students are there. When I went, I went as a MOS-T student and that was pretty much our whole class. We had only 2 MOS-I student and were "attacked" I think once per night twice that week. Now I have heard of others who went were there are several MOS-I students and get "attacked" several times a night and several times the week they are there. While at the FOB, you will pull guard duty. Basically just watching the front so no unauthorized people try to enter. You will get a couple of boring classes. You will go on a couple of boring field exercises.
Hopefully you get the hint that it is rather borrrrrrrring and yes to me a waste of time. But oh well, you gotta do that.
And then the last week after training, you will go to Capstone. Basically same thing as FOB except more weapons firing. Oh did I mention the word boring again??? Oh yeah it is. Fortunatley, I just completed this on Friday and now leave tomorrow. Thank GOD.
Thanks for the info. I am a prior Air Guard member who spent enough time in the Army Guard to get my MOS of 92G but I (as a cook) didn't spend time in the field and only handled an M-16 once every 3 years or less b/c of unit transfers when I moved. I just re-joined the Guard and will be doing 25B AIT. It's nice to know that I won't be in some deal where I'm supposed to be a high speed infantry impersonator. If I'm given a weapon other than an M-16 I'll be screwed. I'm going to do what I can with my new unit between now and then but I know I won't be totally up to speed. My concern is that as a prior service E-4 I might be expected to be in charge and that I'd royally mess it up for the others.
So i take it that as a "high speed" Infantry Paratrooper, there gonna expect me to lead or some ****, damn. Or do PS guys have to do this POS training thing? I think I have enough field time to last me till I get to my unit.......
yes, even high speeds have to go to the FOB, they don't really get dropped and they can have cell phones and go to the smoke pit. they can even make appointments during the day if they need to. i believe that E-7 and above do not have to be at the FOB.
You or your Soldier will go to the FOB twice. Once when they arrive at Ft. Gordon, and once to Validate (Show that they know what they're doing).
When they arrive it is, and they may even be told this, a time killer. That week is time spent trying to get them a date for class. The higher ups at Gordon decided instead of having soldiers mowing grass/sleeping/doing detail. They would send them to the FOB and do some Hooah Hooah army stuff. Although that time is usually spent sitting on bleachers, eating MRE's, getting "attacked" at night, and being downright bored.
The Validation is more of the same. You'll go on a Off Road Ruck March, go to classes, and come back to eat MRE's. Really nothing you can't do while still being in the Barracks.
A tip for all whom are going, that aren't MOS-T. When you go to the FOB, make sure you ask your Platoon SGT. If you can put your valuables in his office. Otherwise you may come back to find them stolen.
