Basic Training |
Hello all, I am currently an RC Soldier who is trying to make an RC to AC transfer. I am an 11B20 and fully aware that it will be hard to get released from my MOS (anyone else have any insight on reclassing from 11B?)
This part is has a lot of guess work: If it is true that if I am able to reclass and I request 25S as my PMOS, I am under that impression that it all depends on what day I try to request 25S as to if it will be approved. I hear it will be based on the training dates, so if I request around a time period that training dates will be available I will be more likely to get approved. How much of this hear-say is true? Additionally I am in by no means trying to reclass for the bonus, but for job training. I see the bonus for 25S Zone B is around 35000 for 6 years. I've generally always thought that the higher the bonus the higher the demand for the MOS was? I see the talk on other post about tactical and strategic paths. Being 11B background will that effect any decisions on what path I were to take? What is the civilian needs for this job training? My hopes are to retire and find a comfortable job? Reading the job description from the Army for a 25S, it seemed to me to somewhat be describing some job functions of an RTO. My question here is how often does a 25S find himself performing RTO functions? What is the daily life of a 25S20 tactically training and deployed, and someone who is a strategic 25S20? As a 25S20 are you in a team leader so to speak role or just another joe? As a 25S20 how many joes are you responsible for on a average assignment? When I think tactical and signal I think of some soldiers moving from a fob out to a COP or AO somewhere maybe conducting retrans ops. What is tactical for a 25S? When deployed how much time is spent on the fob? What is the organization that a 25S would work in? BN commo shop? BDE? Division Support? Pretty much I would like to find out anything and everything about 25S's and what to exspect if I find it possible to make the reclass from 11B20 to 25S20 Thanks, SGT James |

It all depends on personnel strength in each MOS. The best way to be guaranteed reclassification into 25S is to reenlist for it. That is assuming you meet qualificaitons for that MOS. The other way to go about it would be to submit a 4187.
You'd have to speak with your retention NCO about this.
It will have no impact whatsoever. Your old MOS will have no bearing on your 25S training.
Don't really know seeing that I'm not a civilian. I imagine you'd be able to work in the commercial satellite communications industry or work as a government contracter providing support for the military and it's satcom assets.
I don't know why you'd get that impression. A 25S performs none of the tasks of an RTO.
Mostly sit and monitor the equipment in your terminal, perform troubleshooting procedures when something stops working, PMCS and perform maintenance on your equipment. The great thing about the Signal world is that when everything is working you don't have a job to perform. Lots of free time but that opens you up for other taskings and details at times, guard duty, etc. I wouldn't know about the strategic side of the house but have heard things from fellow 25Ss. They perform shift work at an earth terminal site, sit inside an airconditioned building, and monitor multiple satellite links to the site. They also have equipment to PMCS and maintain.
As a 25S you are still a soldier so most certainly you'll be a team leader, team cheif, section chief, as an NCO. You'll have soldiers under you that you'll be in charge of. As a skill level 2 25S you'll more than likely be in charge of a satellite terminal, associated equipment (spares, generator, test equipment, etc.) and a few soldiers assigned to your team. You might also have additional duties like equal opportunity rep for your company or be the armorer.
Just like I mentioned above you'll be responsible for the operation of a tactical satellite terminal which continuously provides communications for whatever unit you're supporting, so it's a full time around the clock job. Most if not all your time will be spent on the FOB (aka "fobbit"). You would only move forward to a COP or patrol base if that site needed satellite communications setup.
You can be assigned to either a Signal company in a Special Troops Battalion or a Signal company within a Signal battalion and brigade. I've never seen 25Ss in an S6 shop. |
