So I was in Fort Drum prior to coming here and had the best barber in the world (Thanks, Suki! I miss your cuts!). Anyway, I loved getting a razor cut and massage and haven't found anywhere to get one since I am now at Fort Gordon. Is there a decent place in town to get a real haircut? The AAFES barbers suck and are looking for quantity over quality (unless they know the person), and I tried a place in Evans that had the massage, but not the razor cut. The razor part is the most important, so if you have any suggestions, please let me know.

Thanks!

Whats a razor cut? Meaning no scissors, or is it a specific style like number 2 fade or something?

The best I can get here is no guard on the razor. When I mean razor cut, I mean shaving cream and a straight edge a la Sweeney Todd (except for the singing, throat slashing, and meat pies) or a razor like you use to shave your face. Pretty much when I go in and ask for a medium skin fade, I want to feel skin when they're done, not as close to the skin as they can get with an electric razor.

As far as I know a decent haircut violates 670-1.

From AR 670-1 chap 1-8 para a subpara 2a (page 3)

(a) The hair on top of the head must be neatly groomed. The length and bulk of the hair may not be excessive or
present a ragged, unkempt, or extreme appearance. The hair must present a tapered appearance. A tapered appearance
is one where the outline of the soldier’s hair conforms to the shape of the head, curving inward to the natural
termination point at the base of the neck. When the hair is combed, it will not fall over the ears or eyebrows, or touch
the collar, except for the closely cut hair at the back of the neck. The block-cut fullness in the back is permitted to a
moderate degree, as long as the tapered look is maintained. In all cases, the bulk or length of hair may not interfere
with the normal wear of headgear (see para 1–8a(1)(a), above) or protective masks or equipment. Males are not
authorized to wear braids, cornrows, or dreadlocks (unkempt, twisted, matted, individual parts of hair) while in uniform
or in civilian clothes on duty. Hair that is clipped closely or shaved to the scalp is authorized.

What are you? A robot? It was obviously a joke. Eek

I'm fully aware that clippers can be used to cut your hair.

Sorry I didnt see the sarcasm. There are ALOT of people in the signal forums talking a lot of smack with no actual regulation or common sense to back them up. My apologies.

BTW, a few months ago before OCS, I was a SFC.

Not my first day Smile

I have an update.

I think the best place to go would be Leonard's Barber Shop at 2456 Wheeless Road. I went the other day and got a straight edge cut around the ears and neck as a standard service. Maybe next time I'll ask if I can get my sides and abck done.

I cut my own, a set of electric clippers and a hand held mirror for doing the back, it worked for me when I was in the Army, and it works well to this day, nothing better than a free haircut. Big Grin

There are some good barbers in Ft. Gordon. Did you specifically ask for a straight razor cut? They have alot of people that have to get service. I should be working there within a few weeks, I will be glad to do a straight razor head shave or cut for you, just ask for Paul (but give me a few weeks to start).

I always enjoyed going to the one Asian lady in the barber shop by the PX. She is usually in the back right corner. I forget her name but she is really good at cutting hair. There were always lots of people in there just waiting for her and they wouldn't use other barbers when their chairs were open. But now I just cut my own hair. It sure beats paying $8 every week to get it cut. Plus you don't have to waste gas driving to the barber shop and waiting in a long line.

I remember when they changed the regs at Ft Gordon back in '99.

They used to do razor cuts at the AAFES barber, but of course they started worrying about health issues for using razors (doesn't make much sense does it?). But I do remember this barber off of Washington Rd. on the south side of the street. I will try to look it up and see if the guy is still around.. I think back in '99 he charged $12 for a really good razor cut.

Also does anyone know if CiCi's Pizza is still around? I loved that place!
