Stepson has orders to Germany. Where would a 25S be going in Germany? His sister says he said Ramstein. So, what post is there? You can email me privately with this info if worried about OPSEC. Just use the email function on here.
I highly doubt he will be able to get an assignment to Landstuhl. If he does, great. But he will probably end up in a tacsat unit there, since they are hurting the most for people. There are some tacsat units in Darmstadt (thats where some were when I was there). Fact is, he won't know until he gets there. If he went through 25S strategic training, he still might end up in a tacsat unit. He will go to the replacement company in Frankfurt(if its still there) and will recieve further orders to his exact duty station after that.
It's been a long time since I was in and the MOS has changed alot since then, but way back when the places in Germany where SATCOM were stationed were...
1. Landstuhl 2. Berlin 3. Augsburg 4. Worms 5. Bad Aibling
I think Bad Aibling has been shut down, but I'm 100% sure the terminal at Landstuhl is still in service as it not only provides SATCOM, but is also a DSCS OC, or Operations Control center.
Well, from researching his snail mail address (CMR 402), I'm thinking he is at Landstahl. What are the signal units there? Looked online, but couldn't really find anything. Just trying to figure out where he is at so we know what to look for on the deployment units lists.
Landstuhl has a Media Gatway Facility (formally known as a DSCS site) and a WSOC (DSCS OC). They are two entirely separate units with different chains of command. The MGF falls under 181st Signal Company, 43rd Signal Battalion, 2nd Signal Brigade, 5th Signal Command. WSOC belongs to Charlie Company, 53rd Signal Battalion, their headquarters is in Colorado. The OC is where the 1C's work. The GIG facility is part of 5th, is located here, but it manned with contractors. It is what most people refer to as a TCF. If you have any questions feel free to post here or email me.
I'm not sure how that works either. Anyway, If you could send me a message I'll re-send you the info. If you click on my profile, it'll have a button in there that says send message. I think it sent the message to you on your email account that you registered with.
i know this is way way passed the time the last person posted anything, but my husband was stationed in germany for 3yrs at darmstock (spelling?). he had a blast. we met online in dec 2006 shortly before he pcs-ed back to the states. he loved it so much and i want to go to germany so bad it makes my left eye twitch, that once our son is about 8 or 9 (about 8 yrs from now) we are hoping to get stationed there.
his best advice to anyone getting stationed there is to TRAVEL!!! its cheap, fun and you can see some of the closer countries on the weekend. and of course, theres always amsterdam...hehehe

No offense, but I don't think you have as firm of a grasp of what's considered sensitive as you may think. 22nd's PAO made an official statement to the media. I'm not sure how knowing a Signal Brigade doesn't exist could violates opsec Does discussing the 11th Airborne Division, or the 54th Massachusetts violate opsec?. Did 22nds POA violate opsec? We're not discussing a stealth bomber here.
