I am an E6 in the Ca-NG. My unit, a Brigade Combat Team, is having trouble finding just what MOS they want me to be. I have gone from 21U, to 15P, to 14J, and now possibly 25B.
I am an Electrical Engineer in civ life with some IT history, but none in recent years.
Was wondering what AIT life would be like for me at Ft. Gordon. I am not an IET, but not a Reclass either. I am part of the "Grey Brigade" returning to military service after decades out.
I am guessing I bunk up with the MOS-T guys, not the IET kids. And what about freedom?
I am an Ordnance MOS-T right now. As an E-6 you would be able to live off post or in the barracks, your choice. Nights and weekends would be free unless you were in charge of a detail or remedial pt. Go to school with the IET soldiers but thats it.
pfont that has to suck. I went as ps in 2003 as an e4 I know some of the ps ncos would get pissed off at iet students when they did stupid ****, they were told they couldnt correct them.

thats different now, an NCO is an NCO no matter what status. even ps privates can correct the IET soldiers.
This is good to know. I had to go through WTC and not BCT. But, we did have drill sergeants. One day, in the middle of a serious charlie foxtrot caused by the DS, he informed me that none of us PS vets had any discipline. I just had to inform him that not only did I out rank him (both of us were SSG's), but I had been an E6 before he was out of diapers, had discipline then and now, and he should respect that, or at least recognize that, and at a minimum he should respect his elders! We had no problems after that. Respect the rank not the man is true, but respecting both is much better.
I really wanted to know what after working hours would be like for me at AIT. When in school they can treat me like a PVT if they want to. Just dont put me in their barracks. Cant stand living with those young bastards.
no, ps guys got their own barraks you may be sharing with someone. pretty much you just go to school after the class is over its your time, unless your company has some bs for you to do.
From what I've read about 14j and 25b it sounds like that's more befitting your skills and responsibility. No real discount on AIT time though. Good luck and thanks for the reply.
