Its being phased out, that doesnt mean they dont currently have requirements for people to fill existing slots. They dont just wake up one morning and say ok everyone who does X will now do Y, it takes a while to operationally change how units work when equipment changes... and above all units have to work first.
PERSCOM (call it Army HR) takes a look at all the projected vacancies ( people reaching the end of thier enlistments without new contracts, seperations for other matters {chapters, retirements, promotion}, and new requirements for personel with specific MOSs for X number of months out (it varies depending on the source of the replacements... if someone has to go to Basic and AIT or just AIT they factor in the addtional lead time that Basic would entail) and tells the MEPS computer system that they need X number of new recruits.
Dont be afraid of MOSs changing, they do all the time. Be a good soldier, put forth your best effort and everything else will fall into place. Welcome to the Signal Corps!

Thanks for the info! I feel better about the whole MOS thing. I did everything kind of quickly, I just wanted to be sure I hadn't made a mistake, I'm heading to Ft Benning for BCT next week. Thanks again,

No you didnt make a mistake, you want to make something better of yourself and this is a good first step. Keep your wits, pay attention and remember that you're not the first one to go down this road, lots have done it before.
